At least 600,000 Cases of Malaria, 6,900 Cases of Rabies and 15 Women Die Every Day at Delivery

A report issued by the Yemeni Health Ministry has recorded more than 600 thousand cases of malaria in 2018 . Hodeidah top listed the provinces that are most affected by malaria , then comes Hajja and Taiz provinces.

according to a United Nations’s report issued last September , a Yemeni child dies every 10 minutes because of malnutrition or other diseases . Also 15 women die every day at delivery for several reasons , where the siege and the war , for four years , are the most important ones.

The report pointed out that about 44913 cases of Maltese fever recorded in Dhamar and Sana’a were among the most affected, other 28031 cases of dengue fever , and the number of cases of rabies exceeded 6900 cases, the province of Dhamar top listed the countries most affected by this disease , then comes the province of Ibb, amid the lack of medicines for the disease.

It pointed out that leishmaniasis has infected about 4742 cases during the past year, and more than 24871 people were infected with schistosomiasis, Hajja came at the top list then Saada province.

The report pointed out that the deaths of 493 cases because of acute watery diarrhea “cholera” and the injury of 361266 cases in different provinces, and the injury of 3103 cases of diphtheria, 178 of them died, while 4002 people were infected with tuberculosis.

The report mentioned the spread of smallpox came back again in 2018, more than it was previously, infecting 36,672 citizens, mostly children, as well as the injury of 32811 citizens with mumps disease “parotiditis.”

It also pointed out that the number of meningitis cases was more than 2576, and the neonatal tetanus exceeded 122, while the number of hepatitis B and C was 5091 cases, other 14231 cases of hepatitis A and E , as well as 73654 cases of pertussis .

The report added that measles affected 24,132 cases, mostly children, while the number of cases of typhoid was 240208 cases.

The report recorded that the number of cases of seasonal influenza was 16269 cases, and more than 2254714 cases related to the upper respiratory tract, other 940318 cases related to the lower respiratory system.

The report explained that this statistic is only for those who have been referred to hospitals and health centers, and their condition has been monitored, noting that there are another dozens were unable to go to hospitals for several reasons, the most important one is the poor financial situation suffered by the Yemeni citizen since coalition transferred Yemen’s bank from Sana’a to Aden and the interruption of paying salaries for 27 months ago, as well as the procedures of the countries of the alliance against the Yemeni economy, which affected the purchasing power of the riyal against foreign currencies and others.

Over 18,000 missile attacks on markets, hospitals and cultural centers by Riyadh and coalition partners UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, Senegal and Sudan.

This war on Yemen has made three-quarters of the population in need of humanitarian assistance and pushed the country to the brink of famine, while the United Nations has considered the crisis facing the Arab country as the worst in the world.
