The US Senate plans to vote on a bill that would require the withdrawal of US troops from the war in Yemen and stop supporting Saudi Arabia, indicating the US involvement in the war on Yemen

This coincides with the signing of an open letter by forty non-governmental organizations calling on senators to support the resolution presented by Senator Bernie Sanders, Mike Lee and Chris Murphy

The resolution calls for a vote on authorizing the US military to play a military role in Yemen under the War Powers Act, using the 1973 War Act, which allows any member of the council to make a decision to withdraw US armed forces from a conflict which Congress has not been authorized to participate

“We believe that this conflict (in Yemen) is unconstitutional and unauthorized to fight because Congress has not declared war or authorized the use of military force,” Senator Bernie Sanders told a news conference

He added that the draft law that we are discussing demanded “to stop the US support for Saudi Arabia in the war in Yemen,” describing what is happening as a “devastating war by Saudi Arabia and the Houthis,” and “US support for the Saudi alliance in Yemen because it is illegalmust end ”
