WHO: More than 16,500 people still await evacuation from Gaza
Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus stated on Wednesday that the organization’s medical evacuation program has transported nearly 8,000 patients from Gaza for treatment over the past two years, including more than 5,500 children.
In a post on X, monitored by Saba, he added: “With the ongoing ceasefire, WHO is working to expand the scope of medical evacuations.”
He noted that more than 16,500 people, including approximately 4,000 children, are still awaiting evacuation, as the damaged health facilities in Gaza are unable to provide the necessary care.
The organization urged countries to accept more of these patients and called for the opening of all evacuation routes, especially to the West Bank, including East al-Quds.
