Afghanistan: 7 demonstrators killed as clashes erupt at Kabul anti-government protest

Seven people were reportedly killed in Kabul as demonstrator engaged in clashes with riot police during a protest demanding the resignation of Afghan President Ashraf Ghani and Chief Executive Officer Abdullah Abdullah, Friday.

The action follows the deadly car bomb explosion that took the lives of at least 80 people and wounded over 350 in the Afghan capital on Wednesday morning.

Protesters gathered in Zanbaq Square, where the blast occurred, holding anti-government banners and chanting against terrorism. Demonstrators scuffled with security forces as they attempted to reach the presidential palace.

Police was heard firing shots in the air and allegedly also tear gas in order to suppress the uprising.

The car bomb exploded on Wednesday in the Wazir Akbar Khan region of Kabul where a number of embassy buildings are located.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the terrorist incident.
