The UNICEF Resident Representative in Yemen, Marchel Relano, confirmed that 11 million Yemeni children need humanitarian assistance.

More than 5,000 children have been killed and wounded since March 2015 by the war, she said at a press conference in Sana’a, adding that 1.8 million Yemeni children are severely malnourished, of whom 400,000 are at risk of losing their lives.

She also mentioned that 2 million Yemeni children are outside school, including half a million that dropped out of school since the outbreak of the war in 2015, considering that 25% of the infected cholera patients are children.

“256 schools were completely destroyed by the end of September 2017 and 173 stopped receiving students as a result of the war,” she added.

“Half of Yemen’s children do not have access to drinking water and health services,” she stressed.

Meanwhile, she explained that workers in the health and education sectors have not received their salaries for more than a year, appealing the world to take action and stop the war in Yemen, stressing that the humanitarian situation has become unbearable.
