From 70 to 40 kg: “Salim” – A Living Witness to Gaza’s Famine
Among the displacement tents in southern Gaza lies Salim Ibrahim Asfour, a displaced man from Absan village, his emaciated body bearing witness to the famine ravaging the Strip for months.
Once healthy, the four-month food blockade has caused him to lose over 30kg, dwindling from 70kg to barely 40kg.
The father of six now lives in a rudimentary tent, his relatives describing his inability to move or rise from bed as “horrifying”.
Since Israel’s latest aggression began, Gaza’s humanitarian conditions have deteriorated unprecedentedly with:
– Relief agencies unable to deliver sufficient aid
– Vital crossings sealed shut
– UN reports confirming hundreds of thousands face:
Critical malnutrition
Severe water shortages
Collapsed medical care
Salim’s tragedy mirrors tens of thousands of displaced Palestinians fighting for survival as Israel’s siege silences Gaza’s cries for help
