Hamas: Palestinian Unity Is Essential to Confront the Zionist Right
Hamas spokesperson Hazem Qassem affirmed that the Palestinian political situation—twenty-one years after the last presidential elections—requires urgent internal arrangements and a comprehensive rebuilding of the system based on Palestinian standards that unify the national position and strengthen internal cohesion to confront mounting challenges.
Qassem noted that the extremist Zionist right-wing government targets all Palestinian components without exception, in an effort to weaken national unity and impose greater control and external interference in Palestinian affairs.
He stated: “It is unreasonable for the Palestinian political system to continue in this state of imbalance, with the Authority’s leadership having suspended elections for all these years, and with the resulting monopoly, authoritarianism, and corruption. This reality opens the door to external interventions and the erosion of national rights.” He stressed that Palestinian internal unity and the rebuilding of institutions according to a clear national vision represent the optimal path to confronting Zionist and foreign schemes and safeguarding national rights in the face of occupation.
Qassem further emphasized that the continuation of political division and external interference weakens the Palestinian position, asserting that the time has come to reform the internal political system, unify the Palestinian ranks, and transform challenges into sources of strength in an ongoing existential struggle against the forces of occupation and the conspiracies targeting the Palestinian cause.
