January 28: A Day of Systematic Massacres and the Targeting of Civilians in the Record of Aggression Crimes
January 28 stands as one of the bloodiest days in Yemen’s national memory. Its recurring events across years of aggression reveal the scale of systematic criminality perpetrated by the U.S.–Saudi–Emirati aggression against civilians—through the targeting of homes, roads, service facilities, schools, and residential neighborhoods. It represents a comprehensive war policy that made no distinction between child and woman, nor between a home and an institution, in blatant violation of all international and humanitarian laws.
2016: Massacres of Homes and Roads
On January 28, 2016, coalition warplanes committed a horrific massacre in the village of Al-Malleeh in the Dhuwaib area of Haidan District, Saada Governorate, killing 14 civilians—most of them women and children—and wounding five others after striking the home of citizen Mohammed Hassan Awshan.
In Taiz Governorate, 14 civilians were killed in an airstrike targeting a vehicle on the main road in the Al-Ahyouq area of Al-Wazi’iyah District, in one of the most heinous crimes against travelers. Three more civilians were killed and five injured in three airstrikes that hit the Youth House building and the Zakat Duties Branch in Maswar District, Amran Governorate.
The bombardment extended to Al-Hudaydah Governorate, where two civilians were killed and three wounded by an airstrike on Jabal Al-Milh in Al-Salif District, alongside five strikes on Al-Hudaydah International Airport. In the Capital Secretariat, airstrikes hit Bani Hashish, Sarf, Al-Kharafi, and Jabal Al-Taweel, causing extensive damage to agricultural land and property.
2017: Broad Escalation and Nationwide Targeting
On January 28, 2017, the aggression intensified airstrikes on Marib Governorate, targeting citizens’ homes in Sirwah. In Saada, a series of strikes hit Kitaf, Baqim, and Al-Dhaher, accompanied by Saudi artillery shelling on Munabbih District.
In Taiz, warplanes carried out more than ten strikes on Mokha District, targeting Khalid Camp in Mawza’ and the areas of Al-Omari, Dhubab, and Al-Hali, marking an unprecedented escalation. Strikes also hit Hajjah, Sana’a, and Al-Jawf, including the Guard School in the capital—clear evidence of deliberate attacks on civilian and educational facilities.
2018: Targeting Workers and Border Areas
On January 28, 2018, a civilian was killed in Taiz after an airstrike targeted a bulldozer beneath the Shar’ab junction. Two civilians were wounded by Saudi border guards’ gunfire in Razih District, Saada, which also endured intense missile and artillery shelling.
Airstrikes struck Haradh, Midi, and Bakil Al-Mir in Hajjah; Al-Qubaytah and Karsh in Lahj; Nihm in Sana’a; and Al-Maslub in Al-Jawf, causing major damage to homes and farms.
2019: Sniping and Shelling of Residential Neighborhoods
On January 28, 2019, a woman was wounded by coalition mercenaries’ gunfire in the July 7 residential area of Al-Hudaydah City. Residential neighborhoods, the airport, and the Faculty of Medicine were subjected to intense shelling with medium and heavy weapons.
Mercenaries also targeted Al-Durayhimi City with machine guns and established combat fortifications inside residential areas, in a flagrant violation of international law.
2020: Targeting Schools and Children
On January 28, 2020, two young girls were shot inside a children’s school by mercenary snipers in Sabir Al-Mawadim District, Taiz Governorate—an act that epitomizes the criminal nature of the aggression.
In Al-Hudaydah, residential neighborhoods and farms in Al-Tuhaita, Bayt Al-Faqih, and Al-Durayhimi were subjected to heavy artillery shelling, alongside Saudi missile attacks on Razih District in Saada.
2021: Heavy Fire and Field Mobilization
On January 28, 2021, reconnaissance aircraft carried out 13 strikes on Al-Tuhaita, Bayt Al-Faqih, and Al-Durayhimi districts in Al-Hudaydah, while mercenaries fired 369 artillery shells and erected combat fortifications within residential areas.
Saudi missile and artillery shelling continued on Razih, and Saada and Marib were hit by repeated airstrikes.
2022: Comprehensive Aerial Aggression
On January 28, 2022, coalition aircraft launched dozens of strikes on various districts in Marib, as well as Saada, Taiz, Shabwa, Al-Bayda, and Al-Jawf, targeting districts and public facilities.
