Al-Jawf Cultivates Sovereignty: Record-Breaking Expansion in Wheat Cultivation Reinforces Self-Sufficiency
In a scene reflecting the profound transformation Yemen has undergone since the glorious September 21 Revolution, Al-Jawf Governorate is witnessing a qualitative leap in wheat cultivation, establishing a new paradigm: independent national decision-making yields food security and economic sovereignty.
While wheat was once a tool of external blackmail during decades of foreign control, it has now become a cornerstone of a national project managed by the will of the state and the integration of society.
An Unprecedented Agricultural Leap
In this context, the Executive Director of the General Corporation for Grain Production and Development, Engineer Salah Al-Mashraqi, affirmed that Al-Jawf is experiencing a rapid agricultural renaissance within the framework of the state’s general direction towards achieving self-sufficiency and enhancing local production.
He explained that the area cultivated with wheat has increased from approximately 6,500 hectares in 2023 to nearly 18,000 hectares currently, a growth that reflects the scale of efforts and cooperation between official bodies and the people of the governorate.
State and Society Integration: A Model for Resilient Development
This expansion would not have been possible without the farmers’ response to agricultural initiatives and their close cooperation with the Grain Corporation and relevant authorities, in a practical model of partnership-based development.
The Corporation continued to provide facilities, technical support, and guidance, contributing to increased production, improved quality, and enhanced agricultural sustainability.
Wheat as a Sovereign Crop
Wheat represents the cornerstone of the food security system. Therefore, expanding its cultivation is part of a comprehensive national plan to reduce dependence on imports and build a productive economy that protects the country from external pressures. It is a battle for sovereignty fought with grain as well as with principled stances, in which national will triumphs over blockade and blackmail.
