Gaza Under Siege: Ongoing Tragedy and Hospitals on the Brink of Collapse
The Gaza Strip continues to bear the brunt of the ongoing Israeli aggression, which began in October 2023, amidst a suffocating siege that exacerbates the humanitarian crisis and threatens the lives of millions of civilians. Thousands of martyrs and wounded are recorded daily, and hospitals face a severe shortage of medicines and medical supplies. Meanwhile, attempts at displacement and Judaization in Jerusalem persist, and displacement in the West Bank has reached unprecedented levels not seen in six decades.
A Tragic Toll
The Ministry of Health in Gaza confirmed that the number of martyrs of the aggression has reached more than 72,267, while the number of wounded has exceeded 171,976 since the start of the aggression in October 2023. Since the ceasefire in October 2025, the number of martyrs has reached 691, and the number of injuries has reached 1,876, with an additional 756 bodies recovered. Many victims remain under the rubble and in the streets, as ambulance crews are unable to reach them.
On the Verge of Closure
Dr. Muhammad Abu Salmiya, director of Al-Shifa Medical Complex, warned that Gaza’s hospitals could completely shut down within days due to shortages of fuel, medicine, and vital medical supplies. He explained that hospitals are operating at limited capacity, while intensive care and ventilator equipment is facing a critical shortage, threatening the lives of critically ill and chronically ill patients, amid escalating signs of a return to famine.
A Systematic Policy
Forced displacement has affected a number of Palestinian families in the Batn al-Hawa neighborhood of Silwan and other areas, as part of a settlement plan aimed at emptying the city and forcibly imposing a Judaized reality. Haroun Nasser al-Din, a member of Hamas’s political bureau, affirmed that these policies will not alter the Palestinians’ historical right to their land and holy sites, calling for support for the steadfastness of the threatened families and for holding the occupation accountable at the international level.
Largest in Six Decades
In this context, UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini noted that the scale of displacement in the occupied West Bank is the largest in nearly six decades, emphasizing the continued violence and violations of international law. He called for urgent intervention to save civilians and halt the escalation, which threatens the lives of residents and is leading to a worsening humanitarian crisis.
The Crossing Crisis and the Siege
The crossings into Gaza remain almost completely closed, exacerbating shortages of food, medicine, and fuel. The Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine affirmed that the continued obstruction of the ceasefire agreement is increasing the suffering of the population and turning the Gaza Strip into a disaster zone. The Palestinian Mujahideen Movement also warned against the continued closure of Al-Aqsa Mosque, considering it a blatant violation of the holy sites of the Islamic nation.
Urgent appeal
In light of the ongoing crisis, the Palestinians called on the international community and the parties guaranteeing the ceasefire agreement to pressure the Zionist entity to open the crossings, ensure the delivery of medical and food aid, and protect civilians. They also urged Arab and Islamic countries to take effective action to support the steadfastness of the Palestinian people in the face of the enemy and its Judaization plans, while emphasizing that Palestinian steadfastness continues despite all challenges.
