Gaza Bleeds… and Al-Aqsa Under Siege
In a scene of profound human suffering, the chapters of tragedy continue in Palestine. Gaza bleeds under the weight of ongoing aggression, while Al-Aqsa Mosque languishes under a tight siege, the longest of its kind in years. This comes amidst a comprehensive Zionist escalation targeting people, land, and holy sites, revealing a dangerous phase where humanitarian and religious dimensions intertwine.
Ongoing Toll and Suffering
The number of victims in the Gaza Strip is tragically increasing. The Palestinian Ministry of Health announced that the death toll has risen to over 72,000 martyrs, in addition to tens of thousands of wounded since the start of the aggression in October 2023.
Despite the ceasefire declaration, the occupation forces continue their violations, amidst significant difficulties faced by ambulance crews in reaching victims trapped under rubble or in the streets. This reflects the scale of the escalating humanitarian catastrophe.
Direct Targeting of Civilians
In the context of the ongoing escalation, enemy forces continue to directly target civilians. Two brothers were killed by Israeli fire in northern Gaza, in yet another incident confirming the continuation of attacks despite the ceasefire. Field reports indicate that the violations have not ceased but are taking on multiple forms, keeping the residents of the Gaza Strip under constant threat.
Al-Aqsa Under Siege
Concurrently with the events in Gaza, the Israeli occupation continues to close the Al-Aqsa Mosque for the 29th consecutive day, preventing worshippers from accessing it and imposing strict military measures in the Old City. This closure is raising widespread concerns, especially with the escalating calls by extremist groups to impose religious rituals inside the mosque, in an attempt to create a new reality on the ground and alter the character of the site.
Dangerous Escalation
In the West Bank, settler attacks are escalating to unprecedented levels, with hundreds of attacks recorded recently. These attacks include shootings, arson, and raids on Palestinian villages. They have also led to the displacement of several communities, as part of a policy aimed at imposing new realities and altering the demographic composition. This is compounded by the ongoing policy of home demolitions as a tool of collective punishment.
Humanitarian Catastrophe
The humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip is deteriorating rapidly. Thousands of families are living in overcrowded shelters with a severe shortage of basic services, according to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).
Water sources are also suffering from severe pollution and shortages due to the destruction of infrastructure, threatening the spread of disease.
Similarly, the health sector is on the verge of collapse due to a critical shortage of medicines and medical supplies. Thousands of patients need to travel outside the Gaza Strip for treatment but are unable to do so because of the restrictions imposed on the crossings.
Targeting the Media
Journalists have not been spared from this escalation, with several being killed while performing their professional duties in a clear attempt to obscure the truth and prevent the reporting of events on the ground. Martyr Ali Shuaib, a correspondent for Al-Manar TV, and martyr Fatima Fatouni, a correspondent for Al-Mayadeen TV, were killed in direct attacks, a crime reflecting a systematic targeting of the media and a blatant violation of all international laws and norms.
Between Pain and Resilience
The rapidly unfolding events in Palestine reveal a comprehensive escalation combining Zionist aggression, siege, and humanitarian pressure. Gaza, which bleeds daily, Al-Aqsa Mosque, which is besieged and targeted, and the West Bank, which is witnessing an escalating wave of attacks, all reflect the magnitude of the challenges facing the Palestinian people.
Despite this, the Palestinians continue their steadfastness in the face of these challenges, clinging to their rights, their land, and their holy sites, in an open-ended battle that transcends geographical boundaries to become a battle for existence and identity.
