Sanaa Responds Strongly to UN Envoy’s Bias: Official Refutation of Grundberg’s Claims and Reaffirmation of Yemeni Sovereignty

In a firm diplomatic stance reflecting the steadfastness of the Yemeni position and the clarity of its vision regarding regional issues, Deputy Foreign Minister Abdulwahid Abu Ras refuted the contents of the recent statement issued by the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, in which he addressed the Yemeni position on military intervention in the face of American-Zionist aggression in the region.

In an official letter addressed to the UN envoy, Abu Ras explained that Yemen’s military action comes within the context of confronting Zionist schemes aimed at reshaping the region under misleading pretexts, most notably the “Greater Israel” project. He emphasized that this action expresses a principled and unwavering stance in the face of threats affecting the entire nation.

The Deputy Foreign Minister stressed that Yemen’s sovereignty and national decision-making are a red line that cannot be crossed, noting that the decision of war and peace is an absolute sovereign right of states, and no external party, including the UN envoy, has the right to interfere in it or attempt to influence it.

In his rebuttal, Abu Ras recalled the UN’s record since the start of the aggression against Yemen on March 26, 2015, pointing to its blatant bias in favor of the aggressor states and its clear inability to achieve any real breakthrough towards peace, given the continued aggression, the escalating blockade, and the unilateral measures implemented by the Saudi regime against the Yemeni people.

He also criticized the performance of the UN envoy, considering that he has not fulfilled his role as required and has not made serious and tangible efforts to establish peace, especially with regard to addressing Sana’a’s legitimate demands, the latest of which was action to halt the unilateral economic measures targeting the livelihoods of Yemenis, which were met with complete disregard by Grundberg.

Abu Ras pointed out that the eleventh anniversary of the aggression against Yemen warranted a different international stance, one that reflected the magnitude of the humanitarian tragedy endured by the Yemeni people, instead of criticizing Sana’a’s honorable positions on issues concerning the Muslim world.

In closing his message, the Deputy Foreign Minister expressed his hope that the UN envoy would correct his approach by adopting a balanced perspective that maintains impartiality towards all parties and works diligently to achieve a just, comprehensive, and sustainable peace, in accordance with his UN mandate, free from bias, and ensuring that briefings and statements accurately reflect the reality of the crisis without distortion or
