Death Routes Claim 900 African Migrants Off Yemen’s Coast

Multiple media outlets have reported a dangerous surge in deaths and disappearances along the eastern migration route stretching from the Horn of Africa to Yemen. This route has become one of the world’s most perilous migration paths, with over 900 deaths or disappearances recorded in 2025 alone. The daily influx of migrants continues, facilitated by the apparent complicity of the aggressor states and their mercenaries, despite the escalating humanitarian catastrophe.

According to media reports, this route sees between 200 and 300 migrants arriving in Yemen daily. Their perilous journeys traverse harsh deserts and treacherous sea routes, with thousands of people continuing to cross, fleeing poverty and unemployment in their home countries, despite their growing awareness of the immense risks that could claim their lives before they even reach their destination.

The website Africanews quoted a migrant woman’s harrowing account, in which she described the journey as “beyond human endurance.” She explained that she was forced to walk long distances in harsh conditions without any support, while some of the most vulnerable were left stranded in the desert due to extreme exhaustion and thirst—a scene that reflects the arduous nature of the journey and the complete lack of basic necessities for survival.

Field workers warn that the crisis is worsening year after year, as the flow of migrants continues without any lasting solutions or safe routes to end this escalating humanitarian tragedy.
