From Marib to Hodeidah: May 9th, a Bloody Day in the Record of Aggression
May 9th marks one of the bloodiest days in the record of the US-Saudi-Emirati aggression against Yemen. Throughout the years of this aggression, this date has witnessed horrific crimes against civilians, resulting in dozens of martyrs and wounded, including women and children, in addition to widespread destruction of homes, public facilities, service infrastructure, and historical sites.
The crimes of this day reveal the scale of the military escalation and the diversity of targeting methods, from airstrikes and missile and artillery shelling to the targeting of residential neighborhoods, markets, mosques, and educational and health facilities, in a scene that reflects the continuation of the all-out war against the Yemeni people.
2015: Targeting Villages and Mosques
On May 9, 2015, one citizen was martyred and 34 others were wounded, including 11 children and three women, as a result of an airstrike by the aggression’s warplanes using five missiles on the village of Suwada in the Al-Sadda district of Ibb Governorate. This also resulted in damage to 46 homes, including 19 that were completely destroyed.
In Saada Governorate, four civilians were killed and ten others wounded when the Imam al-Hadi Mosque in Saada city, which dates back to 290 AH, was targeted. Also killed were Imam and preacher of the Noah Mosque, Allama Hussein Ibrahim Ahmed Marq, and his relative, Amin Abdullah Hussein al-Amalhi, in an airstrike that targeted their home adjacent to the mosque.
The Saudi-led coalition warplanes launched airstrikes on the main street in Saada city, as well as roundabouts, public and private facilities, and historical landmarks such as Bab al-Yaman and the al-Sarbi market. Two airstrikes targeted the Al Humaidan area in the Sahar district, seven airstrikes targeted the Majz district, several airstrikes targeted the city of Dhahyan, 16 airstrikes targeted the Maran area in the Haydan district, and one airstrike targeted the market in the al-Majazin area of the Saqayn district.
In Amran Governorate, three members of the government complex’s security detail were wounded when it was targeted by airstrikes. The Saudi-led coalition also launched raids on Amran city, Ghulat Ajib in the Rida district, Houth city and Wadi Khaywan in the Houth district, several areas in the Harf Sufyan district, Bani Qais junction and Beit Shuwait in the Bani Suraim district, the Qaflah Adhar district center, Ayal Surayh, and Jabal Ayal Yazid.
The coalition warplanes also fired four missiles at Sana’a International Airport and Al-Dailami Air Base, and launched airstrikes on the College of Petroleum and Minerals building and Ataq Central Hospital in Shabwa Governorate, resulting in a number of casualties.
2016: Targeting of Paramedics
On May 9, 2016, 13 civilians, including five paramedics, were killed and more than ten others were wounded in airstrikes by the coalition on the Qarn al-Damam area in the Harf Sufyan district of Amran Governorate. The strikes also caused widespread damage to public and private property.
The aggression’s mercenaries targeted the Al-Mashjah and Hilan areas in the Sarwah district with artillery and rocket fire. They also shelled the Al-Abadiyah district in Ma’rib governorate with artillery, and the Al-Makhdara area in Al-Jada’an was subjected to mortar shelling.
In the governorates of Sana’a, Al-Bayda, and Al-Jawf, the mercenaries shelled the Baran, Al-Madarij, and Jabal Harim areas in the Nihm district, as well as the Al-Wahbiyah area and the Al-Maslub and Al-Matun districts.
2017: Targeting Roads and Factories
On May 9, 2017, a child was wounded by gunfire from the aggression’s mercenaries in the Al-Matun district of Al-Jawf governorate. Meanwhile, the mercenaries targeted the home of Ahmed Naji Al-Nasiri in the Sarwah district of Ma’rib governorate with Katyusha rockets.
In Taiz Governorate, the Saudi-led coalition warplanes launched two airstrikes on the Al-Barh Cement Factory in Maqbanah District, and two airstrikes on the Khalid Camp in Mawza District. They also targeted a truck carrying food supplies on the main road leading to Hodeidah Governorate with an airstrike, and launched seven airstrikes on the Al-Omari Camp in Dhubab District.
The coalition warplanes also launched three airstrikes on Dhuran Anis District in Dhamar Governorate, and two airstrikes on the Al-Shahliya area in Bani Matar District in Sana’a Governorate, causing damage to farms and civilian property.
Five airstrikes targeted the Al-Mazraq area in Haradh District in Hajjah Governorate, three airstrikes on Al-Durayhimi District in Hodeidah Governorate, one airstrike on Al-Aqaba in the Maran area of Haydan District, and one airstrike on Al-Dhaher District in Sa’dah Governorate. Two airstrikes also targeted the Al-Amoud site in Jizan.
2018: Massacres Against Families and Children
On May 9, 2018, a woman and her four children were killed in an airstrike by the Saudi-led coalition targeting their home in the city of Dhahyan, Majz district, Saada governorate. The coalition also launched an airstrike on the Al-Mukhtabiyah area in the same district.
A child was killed and a man and a woman were injured by a cluster bomb remnant in the Razih district. The coalition also launched three airstrikes on the outskirts of Saada city, two airstrikes on the Al-Azhour and Bani Mu’in areas in the Razih district, and one airstrike on the Bani Mu’adh area in the Sahar district.
Saudi missile and artillery shelling targeted various areas in the Al-Dhaher, Haydan, Razih, and Shada districts, causing damage to farms and civilian property.
The coalition also launched an airstrike on Sana’a International Airport and another on a heavy transport facility in the Asr area of the capital.
The enemy aircraft launched four raids on the Al-Mazraq and Faj Haradh areas in Hajjah Governorate, and one raid on a citizen’s farm in the Al-Murair area of Jabal Ras District in Al-Hudaydah Governorate.
2019: Intense Bombardment of Al-Hudaydah
On May 9, 2019, two children were seriously injured by mercenary artillery shelling of civilian homes in the Al-Zuhur neighborhood of Al-Hali District in Al-Hudaydah Governorate. They also shelled Sana’a Street with six mortar rounds and targeted Al-Hudaydah Airport with heavy and medium machine guns.
The mercenaries also shelled the Al-Dhubiani neighborhood and the Al-Ittihad and Al-Qimmah hotels with artillery, and targeted various locations in the July 7th area with medium machine guns and artillery. They also shelled residential areas on 50th Street with more than five mortar rounds and eight commando rockets.
The mercenaries targeted the Al-Fazah area in Al-Tuhayta district with eight Katyusha rockets and ten artillery shells. They also fired 11 mortar rounds towards southern and eastern Al-Tuhayta, and 15 shells and ten Katyusha rockets at the Al-Jabaliyah area.
Additionally, the mercenaries targeted homes and civilian property on the outskirts of Al-Durayhimi city with 19 artillery shells, resulting in damage.
