Revolutionary Guard commander: Any new aggression will be met with a devastating response that extends beyond the region.
The commander of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard, Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi, asserted on Sunday that the Iranian people “once again confronted the Israeli-American terrorist aggression with overwhelming resistance and a decisive and devastating response from the armed forces,” which “forced the enemy to request a ceasefire in humiliation.”
Vahidi said that the third imposed war “was a complex war,” but that “the decisive and overwhelming response of the armed forces in support of the people thwarted the enemy’s goals and foiled its diabolical plans.”
He stressed that “the country’s greatest strategic asset is the decisive presence of the people in all arenas, for they are a solid and unshakeable barrier against the enemy and its conspiracies.”
He continued: “There is no doubt that the great and conscious Iranian people, in the atmosphere of negotiations to end the war, while maintaining and deepening unity, enhancing insight, and monitoring the enemy’s positions and behaviors, will thwart its plans.”
At the same time, he affirmed that the country’s capable armed forces are “at the highest levels of readiness and active deterrence in all missile, air, sea, land, space and cyber dimensions.”
Vahidi also warned against any new aggression by the enemy, noting that it “will be met with a devastating and hellish response at the regional and supra-regional levels.”
This comes at a time when there is talk of a remarkable development in the communications between Tehran and Washington, where work is underway to finalize a framework agreement being drafted with Pakistani mediation, related to de-escalation and ending the war, according to sources who spoke to Al-Mayadeen.
On the anniversary of the liberation of Khorramshahr, Vahidi said that “the lesson of Khorramshahr is to rely on self-reliance and active deterrence,” noting that Iran’s nuclear, missile, defensive and offensive achievements “have forced Iran’s enemies to reconsider their calculations.”
He also explained that “the liberation of Khorramshahr is an eternal model for victory in future Khorramshahrs, and for the liberation of Jerusalem and the elimination of the malicious Israeli entity at the hands of the axis of resistance and the mujahideen of the Islamic world.”
President Masoud Pezeshkian also declared, on the anniversary of the liberation of Khorramshahr, that “Khorramshahr today is Iran, the Persian Gulf, and the Strait of Hormuz.”
The Iranian president added that resistance, sacrifice, and repelling aggression are “rooted in the culture of this land.”
May 24 marks the anniversary of the liberation of the city of Khorramshahr, located in the southwestern province of Khuzestan, in 1982 during the Iran-Iraq War. In Iran, it is known as the National Day of Resistance, Sacrifice and Victory.
