The Iranian military announced on Tuesday that it had shot down an Israeli reconnaissance drone of the “Hermes” type, which was attempting to spy on sensitive locations within Iranian territory.

According to an official statement published by Iran’s IRNA news agency, Iranian air defense systems successfully detected and tracked the hostile aircraft before bringing it down using advanced systems, including radar, electronic surveillance tools, missiles, and anti-aircraft artillery.

The statement confirmed that the Hermes drone was on an espionage mission targeting strategic Iranian sites, but air defense forces successfully thwarted the attempt.

The Iranian military also revealed that its defense systems have so far downed 28 different types of hostile drones—highlighting Iran’s advanced capabilities in countering aerial threats.
