UNRWA: Palestinian journalists paid heavy price for covering Israeli aggression on Gaza

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) said Palestinian journalists paid a heavy price for reporting on the crimes of the Zionist aggression against the Gaza Strip, noting that Gaza is the most dangerous place in the world for journalists and humanitarian workers.

In a post on the X platform on Sunday, which was monitored by the Yemeni News Agency (SABA), UNRWA said, “Palestinian journalists were our eyes and ears in covering the horrors of the war on Gaza, conveying a poignant human picture of its effects. They worked with bravery and courage despite all the difficulties.”

The Agency added that “they, along with humanitarian workers, paid a heavy price, with more than 230 of them killed,” noting that “Gaza is the most dangerous place in the world for journalists, just as it is the most dangerous place for humanitarian workers.”

UNRWA explained that “international journalists have been prevented, since the beginning of the war, from entering Gaza independently, which is essential for media freedom.” She asserted that this ban “fuels disinformation campaigns and polarizing rhetoric, and aims to cast doubt on direct data and eyewitness testimonies, including those of international humanitarian organizations, as well as to dehumanize Palestinians,” referring to the Zionist enemy’s misleading media campaigns.

It continued, “The ban on the entry of international journalists has been prolonged, and lifting this ban has been delayed for far too long.”

The Government Media Office in the Gaza Strip announced on Wednesday that the number of Palestinian journalists killed since the start of the Zionist war of extermination on October 7, 2023, has risen to 260, following the deaths of three journalists in an Israeli army bombing south of Gaza City.
