Israeli Newspaper: Yemen is Israel’s Nightmare in the Region
The Israeli newspaper Maariv revealed growing concerns within Israeli political and security circles regarding Yemen’s role in the region, describing it as “Israel’s current nightmare.”
The newspaper explained that Israeli anxiety centers on the possibility that any potential US confrontation with Iran could end with the same scenario as the one involving Yemen. Military pressure and threats led to a swift agreement with Washington, while Yemen continued to develop its missile capabilities and carry out its operations without any commitments to Israel.
The newspaper added that the agreement concluded by US President Donald Trump with Yemen was primarily aimed at serving American interests, according to the newspaper, without including any provisions to limit Yemeni ballistic missiles. This has left Israel facing increasing security challenges.
The newspaper indicated that the Israeli elite fears a repeat of this scenario with Iran, whereby Washington would reap quick political gains, while Israel would be left alone to confront missiles and regional threats.
In the middle of last year, an agreement was announced, sponsored by the Sultanate of Oman, between Yemen and the American side to stop the operations of the Yemeni armed forces against American military ships in the Red Sea, which came after Washington’s insistence on trying to obstruct Yemeni operations supporting the Palestinian resistance in Gaza.
