Zakat Authority Launches Orphanage Support Project in Sana’a on National Orphan Day
The General Authority for Zakat and the General Administration of Orphanages in Sana’a organized a celebratory event today to mark National Orphan Day and launch a project to support orphanages. The project, funded by the Zakat Authority at a cost of 50 million riyals, is held under the slogan: {And they give food, in spite of their love for it, to the needy, the orphan, and the captive}.
At the event, which was attended by Ambassador Abdul-Ilah Hajar, Advisor to the President of the Supreme Political Council, the Head of the General Authority for Zakat emphasized the importance of including orphans in the National Day celebrations, addressing their needs, and bringing joy to their faces. He noted the keenness of the Zakat Authority and the Orphanage to launch a 50 million riyal project to support the orphanage at this event, announcing that the Zakat Authority, along with the legislature, would provide clothing for all orphans in the orphanage in the capital and other orphanages.
Abu Nashatan praised the orphans’ creativity in the cultural and artistic segments of the event, emphasizing that these orphans will be the country’s future leaders in medicine, engineering, science, politics, and other fields.
The head of the Zakat Authority pointed out that the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, was a guiding light and a school for all orphans to emulate, commending those in charge of the orphanage for their care and kindness towards this important segment of society, embodying the spirit of giving, humanity, and mercy, and the true meanings of Islam. He said, “No matter what we provide at the Zakat Authority for orphans, we are still falling short. It is incumbent upon all relevant authorities and stakeholders to pay sincere attention to this segment of society, including the orphanages in the capital and other orphanages in the governorates, in accordance with the generous directives of the revolutionary and political leadership.”
For his part, Dr. Ahmed Al-Khazan, Director General of the Orphanage in the capital, emphasized the importance of National Orphan Day in raising community awareness of the suffering of orphans and amplifying their voices, given their right to care and attention.
He pointed out that serving and showing kindness to orphans is an act of worship, as orphans need care, attention, mercy, affection, education, clothing, food, drink, and other necessities of life. He noted that the orphanages in the capital and the governorates are a haven for all orphans.
He further stated that being an orphan is a very difficult situation, but with their faith and by following the example of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him and his family), orphans can transform this hardship and trial into sincere faith and piety. He added that being an orphan is a stage in the development of leaders, teaching them patience, resilience, responsibility, and the ability to overcome difficulties. Dr. Al-Khazan praised the significant role of the Zakat Authority in supporting the orphanage and its orphans through its various projects, including a quarterly allocation of 50 million riyals, alongside contributions from the Endowments Authority and other benefactors. He called upon everyone to show solidarity, compassion, and kindness towards orphans.
The event, attended by the President of Sa’dah University, Dr. Abdulrahim Al-Hamran; the Head of the Social Affairs Committee at the Secretariat, Hamoud Al-Naqeeb; the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Ali Hadban; the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Endowments, Sheikh Muqbil Al-Kadahi; the Acting Undersecretary of the Awareness and Rehabilitation Sector at the Zakat Authority, Hafiz Allah Zayed; and a number of other leaders and social figures, included the screening of a documentary about the orphanage’s programs and activities, as well as several cultural, guidance, and theatrical performances by the orphanage’s students, accompanied by traditional folk dances.
