From Social Gatherings to Coordinates: Spy Farouk Rajih’s Confessions Reveal the Espionage Network

The Ministry of Interior in Sana’a revealed on Wednesday the identities of four spies belonging to a cell linked to British, Saudi, and American intelligence.

The confessions of spy Farouk Ali Rajih included details of espionage activities he was tasked with within a network that collected information and transmitted it to foreign entities.

In his confessions, he stated that he was recruited into espionage through attending social gatherings and meetings, before being assigned tasks related to gathering information from multiple sources.

He explained that a team of seven people was formed with the aim of providing intelligence information almost daily, within an organized mechanism for collecting and transmitting data.

He indicated that he traveled to Saudi Arabia in mid-August 2024 on an Umrah visa and met with a Saudi officer named “Abu Khalid,” who provided him with seven mobile phones containing applications specifically designed for espionage.

The confessions also included his transfer of military and security information and coordinates to a joint operations room, including locations and weapons depots, in addition to information received weekly from various sources, including sources within some government offices.

He stated that he was also tasked with coordinating meetings outside Yemen, including meetings in Cairo, as part of arrangements related to future intelligence missions.

The confessions indicated the use of multiple methods to obtain information, including discussions in social gatherings and meetings, building relationships with government employees or their relatives, and recruiting sources with access to sensitive information.

The Ministry of Interior confirmed that these confessions are part of its efforts to uncover and thwart the activities of espionage networks and to monitor their members linked to foreign entities.
