The Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas confirmed that its meetings in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, with mediators and in the presence of the representative of the “Peace Council,” Nikolay Mladenov, are continuing to discuss mechanisms for implementing the terms of the ceasefire agreement and completing the tracks related to its various stages.

Hamas spokesman Hazem Qassem said in a video statement on Wednesday that “the talks are focused on putting in place practical arrangements to implement all the details of the agreement,” expressing his hope that approaches will be reached that are acceptable to all parties, especially after what he described as the broad consensus achieved during the recent meetings with the mediators.

Qassem explained that current efforts are focused on completing what remains of the first phase, and moving effectively to the second phase of the agreement within an integrated vision that ensures the implementation of the agreed-upon commitments.

He revealed that the discussion sessions held yesterday witnessed a great convergence regarding the mechanisms for implementing the remainder of the first phase, in addition to discussing the files related to the second phase, including the entry of the National Committee into the Gaza Strip, the file of international forces, and dealing with the issue of Palestinian weapons within an approach that he described as logical, reasonable and acceptable to the various parties.

The Hamas spokesman reiterated that the movement is dealing flexibly and positively with the various issues at hand, with the aim of reaching understandings that contribute to the success of the agreement and the implementation of its phases, stressing that the interest of the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip remains the main determinant of the movement’s positions, through working to stop the aggression, ensuring the effective entry of humanitarian aid, and starting the reconstruction process.

On June 13, Hamas delivered the Palestinian factions’ response to the roadmap plan, which they had received from the UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, Nikolay Mladenov, on April 19.

The movement confirmed at the time that the Palestinian factions dealt with the plan responsibly and positively, stressing the need to complete the implementation of the first phase in all its details, especially with regard to the humanitarian protocol and stopping all forms of aggression against the Gaza Strip.

Cairo witnessed a series of meetings last week that brought together Palestinian resistance and jihadist forces with mediators from Egypt, Qatar and Turkey, which led to the formulation of a unified Palestinian position that was presented to the mediators.

These meetings focused on ensuring the effective implementation of the ceasefire agreement on Gaza, completing the terms of the first phase, halting military operations and assassinations, opening the crossings, and bringing in the national committee tasked with managing the affairs of the sector.
