37 Fishermen Yemen Released From Eritrean Prisons

4

Yesterday, Friday, Eritrean authorities released 37 Yemeni fishermen from Al Hudaydah Governorate, after weeks of detention in harsh conditions and the confiscation of their boats, fishing gear, and supplies.

Media sources reported that the released fishermen arrived at Al-Khokha Port, south of the governorate, after a detention period ranging from two to four weeks.

Media sources indicated that the fishermen were subjected to ill-treatment during their detention, and none of their confiscated property was recovered.

This release comes after a series of repeated violations by Eritrean authorities against Yemeni fishermen in the Red Sea, the most recent of which occurred a few days ago when an Eritrean patrol opened fire on a Yemeni fishing boat carrying 31 fishermen within Yemeni territorial waters.

The sources noted that the mercenary government formed by the occupying powers is not taking any action regarding these repeated attacks on Yemeni fishermen in Yemeni territorial waters.
