Over 95% of Gaza’s livestock destroyed amid ongoing conflict

Gaza’s livestock and agricultural sectors have suffered near-total collapse due to Israeli attacks, with thousands of cattle, sheep, goats, poultry killed, , barns, farms, and feed stores heavily damaged.

Basil Hammad, advisor to Gaza’s Agriculture Minister, reported 99.5% of cattle and 80% of sheep lost, while poultry farms saw almost complete destruction. The collapse has caused soaring prices for meat, eggs, and poultry, and left around 4,000 workers unemployed.

Economist Ahmed Abu Qamar estimated direct losses at $150 million over two years, warning that the sector’s collapse—which contributed 11–13% of Gaza’s GDP—has shrunk the local economy by over 30% and threatens further closures of service establishments.

Experts warn that continued disruption endangers food security and economic stability in Gaza.
