Red Cross Facilitates Transfer of 8 Freed Palestinian Prisoners to Gaza Strip

The International Committee of the Red Cross announced on Monday that it facilitated the transfer of eight Palestinian prisoners released from “Israeli” prisons.

The Committee explained, according to the Palestinian News Agency (WAFA), that “the released detainees were transferred from the Kerem Shalom crossing to the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in the Gaza Strip, and the Red Cross team worked to facilitate their communication and reunification with their families.”

It stressed the “need to be informed of the fate and whereabouts of all detainees, and to be allowed access to them,” affirming that it “has not been able to access detainees held in Israeli detention centers since October 2023.”

It pointed out that “under international humanitarian law, detainees must be treated humanely, provided with adequate detention conditions, and allowed to communicate with their families.”

It stated that “many Palestinian families are still anxiously awaiting any information about their detained loved ones,” expressing “concern about their health conditions and safety, and that it continues its dialogue with the ‘Israeli’ authorities to resume its visits to all Palestinian detainees.”
