From the Well of Midian to the Embrace of Prophethood
On a spiritually uplifting Ramadan night, Sayyid Abdul-Malik Badr al-Din al-Houthi continued his series of Ramadan lectures, dedicating the seventeenth lecture to narrating and analyzing the story of the Prophet Moses’ (peace be upon him) exodus from Egypt to Midian. He highlighted the timeless lessons and values within it that can serve as a guiding light for the nation in confronting its current challenges.
The Forced Exodus and Reliance on God
Sayyid Abdul-Malik Badr al-Din al-Houthi began The lecture began by discussing Moses’s immediate decision to leave the city after learning of the Pharaoh’s plot to kill him. It pointed out that Moses, despite not knowing the way and lacking provisions, headed towards Midian based on his awareness of the political situation and his knowledge that it was a land outside Pharaoh’s control. In this context, the speaker emphasized the importance of “trusting in God,” which was manifested in Moses’ supplication: “He said, ‘Perhaps my Lord will guide me to the right path.'” The speaker explained that this trust is the strongest weapon in facing dangers and the unknown.
Kindness and chivalry in the most difficult circumstances: Moses’ arrival at the water source in Midian marked a pivotal turning point in the story and the lecture. Despite his extreme exhaustion from the journey and his suffering from hunger and loneliness, his difficult circumstances did not prevent him from displaying kindness and chivalry. He noticed two women holding back their sheep from the water while waiting for the shepherds to finish, and he rushed to their aid without hesitation. He hesitated.
In this context, the leader highlighted this situation as a profound lesson in the importance of caring for others and offering assistance to the vulnerable, even in the darkest of personal circumstances. He considered this “spirit of benevolence” that Moses possessed to be the key to the great good he later received, saying: “The blessings of benevolence are vast, and a bucket of water… may be the key to great good for him, one of the blessings of benevolence.”
Modesty: A Noble Virtue in the Face of Soft Warfare
The lecture specifically addressed the value of “modesty,” which was manifested in the behavior of the two daughters of the elderly sheikh and in the manner of one of them when she came to invite Moses. The leader described modesty as “a noble virtue, one of the most important moral qualities,” and a great faith-based and human value for both men and women.
He also alerted and warned everyone, men and women, against the “diabolical war” targeting women’s modesty and values by global Zionism, emphasizing that modesty is the fortress that protects a woman’s dignity and preserves her high status. He also pointed out that the righteous sheikh’s invitation to Moses was to reward him for his kindness. The value of appreciating kindness and chivalry is reflected in virtuous societies.
From Zero to Divine Providence
Mr. Al-Mawla concluded his lecture by emphasizing that God does not forsake His allies. After Moses reached “zero point” in terms of material resources, hungry, a stranger, and homeless, he turned to God in supplication: “My Lord, indeed I am in need of whatever good You would send down to me.” Divine providence then came to him complete and comprehensive, manifested in security, shelter, work, and marriage, thus beginning a new phase and an upward trajectory in his life.
