The Twenty-Fifth Ramadan Lecture by Sayyid Abdul-Malik Badr al-Din al-Houthi
I seek refuge in God from the accursed Satan.
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
All praise is due to God, Lord of the Worlds. I bear witness that there is no god but God, the King, the Truth, the Manifest. And I bear witness that our master Muhammad is His servant and messenger, the Seal of the Prophets.
O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, and bestow Your grace upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, as You sent blessings and bestowed Your grace upon Abraham and the family of Abraham. Indeed, You are Praiseworthy and Glorious. And, O Allah, be pleased with his chosen and virtuous companions, and with all Your righteous and striving servants.
O Allah, be pleased with Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, and with all Your righteous and striving servants. O Allah, guide us and accept our deeds, for You are the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing. Accept our repentance, for You are the Oft-Returning, the Most Merciful.
O brothers and sisters:
Peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be upon you.
Continuing our discussion of the blessed verses in the story of the Prophet Moses (peace be upon him), on his journey back from Midian to Egypt, and at the great station in the right valley, where the mission came to him with the message, and revelation descended upon him from God (Glory be to Him, the Exalted), and God spoke to him directly, we had previously discussed this topic in light of the blessed verses from Surah Al-Qasas, Surah An-Naml, and Surah Ta-Ha. We were within the context of the blessed verses from Surah Ta-Ha, where God (Glory be to Him, the Exalted) says: {And you killed a man, but We saved you from distress and tried you severely. Then you remained for years among the people of Midian. Then you came at the appointed time, O Moses. (40) And I chose you [Ta-Ha: 40-41] After God answered Moses (peace be upon him) and granted his request, He also reminded him of His favor upon him, and that he had been under God’s care from the beginning. God (Glory be to Him, the Exalted) created him and bestowed upon him great care throughout the various stages of his life:
First and foremost: his childhood.
And also in the challenges he faced later on.
For example, God saved him from the anguish of the murder incident, facilitated his safe migration, and delivered him from the consequences and repercussions of that event.
Likewise, in the context of the problems he faced before and after his migration, he was prepared to bear the message, accustomed to hardships and difficulties, confronted with diverse problems, and undertook numerous experiences. He was also exposed to risks and challenges, which strengthened his will and accustomed him to adversity and endurance. Even during his exile in Midian, he received further preparation and training within the framework of God’s plan, may He be glorified and exalted.
Therefore, when God, may He be glorified and exalted, said in the blessed verse: {Then you came at the appointed time, O Moses} [Ta-Ha: 40], this means that his return from Midian to Egypt was not by chance. Rather, it was by the decree of God, the Most High, the Most Glorified, the Most High, as God provided the necessary time for Moses to remain in Midian, in a way that would benefit him in the process of qualification and preparation to a certain level, as well as by what God provides—as we mentioned previously—of changes and circumstances that are suitable for him to perform his mission better than ever before. Therefore, the time itself was by the decree of God, the All-Powerful, the All-Knowing, according to His wisdom and His plan, the Most Glorified, the Most High, and also at the time when Moses, peace be upon him, was fully prepared for the great mission of the message, meaning: God’s preparation of him reached the appropriate level to carry out the mission, even though he would continue to enjoy more of God’s care, more of His guidance, more of His advancement, because the path of the messengers and prophets in human, faith-based, moral, and missionary advancement and perfection is an ascending path that continues, continues until meeting God, the Most High, the Most Glorified, the Most High, until death. Therefore, he arrived at a time when the circumstances were more favorable for the task than ever before.
{And I have chosen you for Myself} [Ta-Ha: 41]. God informs him that He has specially prepared him for the mission of the message, confronting tyranny, and rescuing a weak, oppressed, and persecuted nation, within the framework of a mission from God, the Exalted, the Most High. This mission is from God’s mercy, wisdom, and His establishment of justice among His servants, the Most High, and from His wisdom and might. God perfected him and made him suitable for the message, strong in facing adversity, courageous, possessing high morale, eager to guide God’s servants, patient, broad-minded, with energy and the ability to endure, immensely merciful and benevolent, possessing compassion, feelings of mercy, a desire for good for others, and a spirituality that strives to be kind to God’s servants. He is also at the pinnacle of trustworthiness in conveying God’s message, the Exalted. And He is Most High, and generous in his essence, his actions, and his giving, as God mentioned among his attributes in Surah Ad-Dukhan, that he is “a noble Messenger” [Ad-Dukhan: 17].
God, Glory be to Him, Most High, reminded him of all this:
Firstly, to remind him of God’s favor upon him and the resulting responsibility of gratitude. Secondly, to raise his morale and remind him of God’s gifts to him and what God had prepared for him, that he would embark on a mission he was worthy of, for which God had perfected him and prepared him. This, too, served to raise his morale.
“Go, you and your brother, with My signs” [Ta-Ha: 42]. God answered his prayer by appointing his brother Aaron as a messenger, prophet, and minister. “Go, you and your brother, with My signs and do not neglect My remembrance” [Ta-Ha: 42].
Then we find that the blessed verses in Surah Ta-Ha move us to another scene: a scene of Moses and Aaron together, preparing and getting ready to go and carry out their mission, and seeking refuge in God before that.
