Gaza: A Complete Collapse of Life Amidst Suspicious International Silence

The Gaza Strip is currently experiencing one of the most difficult periods in its history, with the humanitarian crisis escalating to unprecedented levels as a result of the ongoing siege and the intensified aggression that has persisted for over two years.

With the deterioration of infrastructure and the targeting of vital facilities, the residents of the Strip face a daily tragedy manifested in shortages of food, clean water, electricity, and medical services, while the international community maintains its suspicious silence in the face of these events.

Unbounded Suffering
Mahmoud Bassal, spokesperson for the Civil Defense in Gaza, explained that the situation in the Strip has transcended the boundaries of a humanitarian crisis, reaching what he described as a “complete collapse of life.” He emphasized that the vast majority of the population suffers from ongoing psychological trauma as a result of the continued aggression and the deterioration of living conditions and services.

Bassal added that the international silence, including that of the United Nations and human rights organizations, reflects a clear moral and humanitarian failure and exacerbates the suffering of civilians in Gaza.

In the same vein, UNRWA warned of a worsening humanitarian crisis, noting that the shortage of fuel and basic cooking supplies has deprived women and girls of a safe daily life, as they bear the brunt of the extremely difficult conditions. Makeshift stoves fueled by scrap wood have become the primary means of preparing food, amidst thick smoke that exacerbates health and psychological problems.

Near-Total Collapse
On World Health Day, the Ministry of Health in Gaza announced that the health system is experiencing a near-total collapse as a result of the systematic Israeli targeting of hospitals and medical facilities, turning the right to treatment into a daily struggle for survival. The Ministry reported that shortages of medicines and medical supplies have reached over 50% in most specialties, while open-heart surgeries and catheterizations have completely ceased, in addition to the suspension of many primary care, surgical, and intensive care services.

The Palestinian Center for Human Rights also confirmed the continued targeting of civilians, medical personnel, and civilian vehicles, amounting to war crimes and genocide under international law, amidst the ongoing siege and the continued prevention of essential humanitarian aid from entering the Gaza Strip.

Catastrophic Figures

The Israeli aggression on Gaza since October 2023 has resulted in over 72,000 martyrs and 172,000 wounded, including tens of thousands of children and women. Many remain trapped under the rubble, while civil defense and ambulance crews are unable to reach them, amidst unprecedented daily suffering.

Systematic Targeting

The Israeli enemy continues to directly target civilians, including medical and civilian vehicles, resulting in martyrs and injuries. These violations are compounded by the ongoing siege, the closure of crossings, and the prevention of aid delivery, making the lives of the Gaza Strip’s residents hostage to the enemy’s policies aimed at “draining life,” as described by the Ministry of Health.

A Persistent Dilemma

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reported that half a million people in various parts of Gaza do not have full access to clean drinking water, despite limited international efforts. This reflects a clear gap between the actual needs of the population and what humanitarian organizations provide.

Gaza Resists Despite the Genocide

Under these catastrophic circumstances, the people of Gaza remain steadfast, united in the face of aggression and siege, demanding that the international community assume its humanitarian and moral responsibilities. What is happening in Gaza is not merely a crisis, but a systematic genocide targeting civilians, requiring urgent intervention to end the suffering of millions of innocent people. With every bombardment and act of aggression, Gaza proves that the will of its people and their love of life cannot be broken, and that the Palestinian cause will remain alive in hearts and minds, despite the most difficult circumstances.
