Prince of the Forerunners, Abdul Karim Thabit: The Martyr Who Ignited a Fierce War Against Injustice, Becoming an Icon of Jihad
Some figures transcend the boundaries of time and place, becoming beacons illuminating the paths of generations and inspiring them with the meanings of giving and sacrifice. At the heart of the Quranic movement stands the martyr Abdul Karim Thabit, nicknamed “Prince of the Forerunners,” a symbol of sincere faith and unwavering courage. From his upbringing in the village of Al-Hajla in Maran, to his early imprisonment for his “slogan,” and finally his martyrdom on the fields of honor, this martyr’s life was a living embodiment of his immortal testament: “O beloved ones, we must follow the Ahlul-Bayt (peace be upon them)… and ignite a fierce and relentless war against those who wage war against the family of Muhammad.” In doing so, he practically demonstrated his resistance to the vicious attack on the Quranic project, orchestrated by the Americans, in Maran, Sa’dah Governorate.
Early Life and Role
Martyr Abdul Karim Thabit was born in 1973 in the village of Al-Hajla, Maran district, Haydan Directorate, Saada Governorate. He grew up in an environment that embodied the values of faith and jihad, and was influenced by the Quranic movement whose light was first lit by the martyred founder, Sayyid Hussein Badr al-Din al-Houthi (may God be pleased with him). He was among the first to embrace and defend this movement, and was even among the first to be imprisoned for chanting the slogan in the Great Mosque of Sana’a. This early stance demonstrates his unwavering faith and courage in confronting injustice and tyranny.
His Role in the First War and His Martyrdom
Martyr Abdul Karim Thabit played a prominent leadership role in the first unjust war waged by the authorities against Maran and Ansar Allah. He was among the great commanders who fought alongside the martyred leader, bravely confronting the machinery of killing, injustice, and criminality. He earned the leader’s trust and great appreciation, to the point that the leader described him as, “Abdul Karim Thabit is one of us, the Ahlul-Bayt,” a testament reflecting his high spiritual and jihadist standing.
His Will and Legacy
Martyr Abdul Karim Thabit left a will that reflects the depth of his thought and faith. In it, he emphasized the importance of following the Ahlul-Bayt, adhering to the righteous path, and confronting injustice. This will was not merely words, but a roadmap for future generations.
From his will:
“Therefore, my beloved ones, we must follow the Ahlul-Bayt (peace be upon them), emulate them, and follow their example in word, deed, and belief, so that we may reach the harbor of happiness and the safe haven of security, paying no heed to those who try to turn us away from them, past or present. We declare that we will wage a fierce and relentless war against those who have sown discord against the family of Muhammad, using all the power and eloquence at our disposal, seeking help from the Lord of the Worlds. And God will surely grant victory to those who support Him, for God is All-Powerful, All-Mighty.”
The Date of Martyrdom and Great Victory
Abdul Karim Thabit was martyred on June 28, 2004, in the Al-Saifi area of Saada Governorate, during this war, while defending the principles upon which the Quranic movement was founded. His life story was immortalized in a documentary film within the “Men of God” series, and his name is associated with a famous zamil (traditional Yemeni chant) entitled “The Prince of the Forerunners” by the singer Issa Al-Laith, reflecting the profound impact he had on the collective consciousness and the jihad. He rests in his pure grave in the Martyrs’ Cemetery in Al-Saifi.
In conclusion…
The martyr Abdul Karim Thabit remains a symbol of sacrifice and selflessness, and a role model of courage and faith.
