Protests in Britain Demand End to Use of Bases Against Iran

A significant demonstration took place in Fairford, Gloucestershire, where hundreds gathered outside the Royal Air Force base hosting US bombers used in military operations against Iran.

The protest, organized by the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND), reflected growing public opposition to Britain’s role in the war, amid fears that British bases could become direct platforms for conflict.

Around 200 protesters marched from Fairford High Street to the perimeter of the base, carrying banners and photos of children killed in the attacks on Iran and Lebanon.

The British Ministry of Defence clarified that the US use of the bases is limited to “restricted defensive operations,” emphasizing that each request is considered individually according to legal standards.

The protests come at a time when the base has seen increased activity since the start of the offensive against Iran in February, making it a symbol of the military alliance between London and Washington.

The Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament called on Prime Minister Keir Starmer to stop US President Donald Trump from using British bases, arguing that it was dragging Britain into a war that did not serve its interests.

Residents of the area expressed their frustration with the constant noise of the aircraft, which sometimes caused houses to shake, adding a social dimension to the crisis.
