In line with the approach established by the September 21 Revolution, official efforts continue to enhance food security and regulate markets. During the first quarter of 2026, the Hodeidah Governorate’s Office of Economy, Industry, and Investment achieved positive indicators in food security oversight, recording 366 violations. These included:
150 violations in bakeries and ovens
68 violations for failure to display prices
59 violations for price gouging
67 violations related to expired goods
In addition to violations related to improper storage, non-compliance with specifications, and lack of licenses. These figures reflect the scale of the field efforts undertaken to regulate the market and prevent any practices that harm citizens.
Decisive Measures
As part of its public health protection duties, field teams carried out extensive destruction operations, including:
164 cartons of expired tomato paste
9 tons of food and juices unfit for human consumption
Legal action was also taken against the violators, emphasizing the zero-tolerance policy towards any practices that compromise food safety.
Stimulating Investment and Supporting Industry
In the area of economic development, the office provided its technical opinion on 9 new investment projects and adjudicated 4 trademark infringement cases, reflecting a commitment to regulating the investment environment and protecting commercial rights. It also worked to support several struggling factories and restart their production lines, contributing to the creation of new job opportunities and strengthening national products, particularly in the dairy and local industries.
Community Partnership and Oversight
The Hodeidah Office of Economy, Industry, and Investment received more than 60 reports from citizens, which were addressed seriously, as part of its commitment to strengthening community partnership in oversight.
The office director, Saleh Atifa, affirmed that consumer protection is a top priority, emphasizing the need to intensify field visits to markets, bakeries, and warehouses to address violations and ensure adherence to set prices and weights. He also noted the continuation of monitoring campaigns targeting bakeries, restaurants, and butchers to guarantee that bread is sold according to the approved weight and price, and to stabilize meat prices.
Supporting Local Products
In the context of strengthening the national economy, the office implemented awareness campaigns to encourage boycotts and a shift towards local alternatives, considering them a fundamental pillar in the battle for economic resilience. He emphasized that supporting local products is a strategic choice that contributes to reducing the import bill and achieving self-sufficiency.
