From bombing to starvation: Gaza between annihilation and humanitarian collapse

The crimes of the Zionist enemy against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank continue, in a scene that reveals a systematic escalation targeting the Palestinian people in their lives, livelihoods, health, and even their right to survive, amid increasing warnings of a complete collapse of the humanitarian, health, and economic conditions.

In light of the ongoing aggression and suffocating siege, the circle of humanitarian disaster widens day by day, while the enemy continues its policy of bombing, starvation, destruction, and imposing facts on the ground by force, disregarding all international and human rights calls demanding a halt to the violations.

Ongoing extermination
In the Gaza Strip, the Zionist enemy continues to violate the ceasefire agreement through aerial and artillery bombardment and targeting of residential areas and displaced persons, resulting in martyrs and wounded on an almost daily basis.

The Ministry of Health in Gaza confirmed that the death toll from the aggression since October 7, 2023 has risen to 72,783 martyrs, compared to 172,779 wounded, in one of the bloodiest wars in history.

In a related context, the Gaza Center for Human Rights warned of a Zionist plan aimed at completing the destruction of what remains of residential homes in the Gaza Strip, by forcing residents to evacuate and then bombing and destroying the homes, as part of a systematic policy aimed at deepening mass displacement and imposing a catastrophic living reality on more than two million Palestinians.

The center explained that the enemy destroyed about 90 percent of the sector’s buildings, while hundreds of thousands of residents live in dilapidated tents or next to the ruins of their homes, amid a near-total lack of basic necessities.

Collapse and famine
The humanitarian and health situation in Gaza has reached catastrophic levels, with the continued siege and prevention of the entry of aid, medicines and fuel. Human Rights Watch confirmed that the sector’s hospitals are no longer operating at full capacity, with about 46 percent of the medicine stock depleted, and the health system continuing to collapse as a result of the aggression and the siege.

For its part, the Gaza Chamber of Commerce warned that the sector has turned into “the world’s largest prison,” noting that poverty rates have exceeded 90 percent, while unemployment has reached about 80 percent, with a crazy rise in the prices of basic commodities and food insecurity among the majority of the population.

She stressed that for the third year in a row, the residents of Gaza were deprived of performing the ritual of sacrifice due to the destruction of the livestock sector and the unprecedented rise in livestock prices, at a time when the residents depend on a “survival economy” amid a comprehensive economic collapse.

Raids and arrests
In the occupied West Bank, the Zionist enemy forces and settlers continued their daily attacks against Palestinians, through raids, arrests, theft of property, and attacks on farmers and shepherds.

Large areas in Nablus, Hebron, Bethlehem and Ramallah witnessed raids and confrontations, during which gas bombs were fired and citizens and their property were attacked, while settlers continued their policy of provocation and displacement against the residents, especially in Masafer Yatta and rural areas.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health also warned of the risk of the collapse of the health sector in the West Bank due to the withholding of Palestinian clearance funds, which has caused a severe financial crisis and a critical shortage of medicines and medical supplies, especially cancer drugs, kidney dialysis and life-saving treatments.

The ministry stressed that the continuation of this crisis threatens the ability of hospitals and medical institutions to continue providing basic services to patients.

Suffering behind bars
In enemy prisons, violations against Palestinian male and female prisoners continue, as the Prisoners’ Media Office revealed tragic conditions experienced by female prisoners in “Damon” prison, in light of repeated raids, insults, verbal harassment and deliberate medical neglect.

The office explained that the prison administration has intensified its repression of female prisoners during the past months, amid harsh humanitarian conditions and deprivation of treatment and health care, especially for sick and pregnant women.

Ongoing violations
For its part, Hamas affirmed that the ongoing Zionist crimes and violations represent a clear reversal of the understandings and agreements concluded under the auspices of the mediators, noting that the enemy continues its policy of bombing, starvation, incursions, and imposing facts on the ground by force.
