Associated Press: Islamabad arranges a second round of negotiations between Iran and the United States
The Pakistani army announced that its commander’s visit to Tehran had achieved encouraging progress in the consultations with Iranian officials, stressing that the talks focused on accelerating the pace of consultations to reach a final understanding.
The statement explained that the visit, despite its brevity, was fruitful and laid the foundation for a new phase of direct communication between the two sides.
In the same context, the Associated Press quoted Pakistani officials as saying that Islamabad is continuing its efforts to arrange a second round of direct negotiations between Tehran and Washington, as part of its role as a key mediator.
For its part, the Financial Times, quoting a diplomatic source, revealed that the recent progress came after crucial talks held by Pakistani and Qatari negotiators with the Iranians, noting that the mediators were in regular contact with US envoy Wittkopf during their talks with Tehran.
These developments reflect the negotiations entering a more serious phase, with regional mediators involved in formulating common ground, amid expectations that the next round may define the features of the final agreement if the parties succeed in overcoming the existing contradictions.
