Gaza Government: The Israeli Enemy Dropped 232,000 Tons Of Explosives And Wiped Out More Than 2,000 Families From The Civil Registry.
Ismail Al-Thawabta, Director General of the Government Media Office in Gaza, revealed the toll of the genocidal war waged by the Israeli enemy on the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023, stressing that it has left widespread destruction and unprecedented human and material losses, in light of the continued international support for the enemy and the inability of the international community to stop it.
Al-Thawabta said during the “Pulse of Gaza” program organized by the Palestine newspaper on Sunday that the Israeli enemy forces bombed the Al-Mawasi area, which they described as “safe,” 241 times, and dropped more than 232,000 tons of high explosives on the Gaza Strip, which led to widespread destruction of infrastructure and a large number of casualties.
He explained that more than 2,000 families were completely removed from the civil registry after all their members were martyred, including 8,574 martyrs from those families, while another 6,020 families were turned into bereaved families, of which only one survivor remained, in addition to thousands of missing persons who are still under the rubble.
He added that children and women constitute more than 55% of the total number of martyrs, including more than 21,500 children and 12,000 women, in addition to 1,022 infants under one year old, and 520 children born during the war who were killed in it. He also noted that more than 2,700 children lost their parents, and more than 22,000 fathers were killed.
Regarding professional personnel, he said that the Israeli enemy caused the martyrdom of 1,700 medical personnel, 145 civil defense personnel, 262 journalists, 194 municipal employees, and 2,800 police and civil security personnel, stressing that they are all classified as civilians according to international law.
He pointed out that the health sector suffered a major collapse after the destruction or disabling of 38 hospitals and 46 health centers, in addition to the direct targeting of medical facilities, which led to a sharp deterioration in the health situation, at a time when about 22,000 patients and wounded people are prevented from traveling for treatment, including 5,200 children in need of urgent medical evacuation.
In the education sector, he explained that the war of extermination claimed the lives of more than 20,000 students, 830 teachers, and 194 academics and university professors, as a result of the widespread targeting of educational institutions and their staff.
Thawabta accused the Israeli enemy of violating the sanctity of cemeteries by digging up more than 2,700 graves and burying 529 martyrs in mass graves inside the sector’s hospitals.
Regarding the humanitarian situation, he said that 2,605 citizens were killed while waiting for aid as a result of the policy of starvation and the closure of crossings, noting that the initial economic losses are estimated at about $80 billion, while the losses of the media sector amounted to nearly $1 billion after the destruction of more than 155 media institutions.
Al-Thawabta concluded by emphasizing that targeting journalists and media institutions aims to “obscure the truth,” noting the continued documentation of violations despite the threats, holding the international community politically, legally and morally responsible for the continuation of the war, and calling for an immediate halt to Zionist military operations, the opening of crossings and ensuring the entry of humanitarian aid without restrictions
