Crimes of the Aggression on January 11: A Memory That Does Not Fade with Time
January 11 was not an ordinary date in the record of the aggression. It has repeatedly stood as a witness to a criminal pattern that targeted the Yemeni people in their lives, security, and livelihoods—ranging from roads and markets to homes, hospitals, archaeological sites, and telecommunications networks.
On this day, the contours of a comprehensive war are revealed—one that made no distinction between the displaced and residents, nor between civilians and service, historical, or cultural infrastructure.
2016: Targeting the Displaced, Hospitals, and Heritage Sites
On January 11, 2016, the U.S.–Saudi–UAE-led aggression committed a wide series of crimes across several governorates.
In Sana’a Governorate, five civilians were killed and a woman injured in an airstrike that targeted a vehicle carrying displaced families from Ma’rib in Naqeel Fardhat Nihm, Nihm District. Airstrikes also hit Bani Hashish, Arhab, Sarf, and Sana’a International Airport.
In Ma’rib, one civilian was killed and three injured after a vehicle was struck on the main road in Sirwah District, alongside airstrikes on Jabal Hailan, Al-Mashjah, and Majzar.
In Taiz, one civilian was killed and another injured when Apache helicopters targeted a vehicle in the city of Al-Mokha. Several neighborhoods were also struck, including Fortieth Street, Tabbat Hail, Qasr Al-Shaab, Al-Taiziyah, and the home of businessman Tawfiq Abdulrahim in Al-Sallal neighborhood.
In Al-Bayda, Shahid Saif Al-Sawadi Hospital in Al-Sawadiyah District was destroyed. In Al-Jawf, homes in Al-Ghayl District were destroyed, and the areas of Al-Salamat, Jabal Shihat, and Al-Aqaba were targeted, in addition to drone strikes on Wadi Ayybar.
Sa’ada witnessed some of the most violent attacks, with three airstrikes hitting the Dubaysh gas station in Sahar District. The districts of Al-Zahir, Majz, Razih, and Sahar were subjected to air and missile attacks targeting homes, farms, and telecommunications networks.
The targeting extended to Ibb, Al-Mahwit, Hajjah, and Al-Hodeidah, striking service and agricultural sites, as well as archaeological buildings in the historic city of Kawkaban. This resulted in the destruction of an ancient heritage structure known as Saqeef Al-Marazim and severe damage to nearby historical landmarks.
2017: Ports and Residential Areas Under Fire
On January 11, 2017, two civilians were killed in an airstrike targeting Al-Hodeidah Port, while the districts of Al-Salif and Al-Hali were also bombed.
In Sa’ada, a civilian was killed by Saudi border guards in Munabbih District, as various areas in Munabbih, Al-Zahir, and Baqim were subjected to air, missile, and artillery bombardment.
Enemy aircraft also carried out five airstrikes on the Maintenance Area in Al-Thawra District of the Capital Secretariat, causing extensive damage to civilian homes, alongside strikes on Nihm, Lahj, Taiz, Ma’rib, and Hajjah.
Cluster bombs were dropped in Wadi Jara in Jizan, with additional airstrikes on Najran.
2018: Bedouin Tents and Cluster Munitions
On January 11, 2018, two civilians were killed in three airstrikes targeting nomadic Bedouin tents in the Akawan area of Al-Safra District in Sa’ada. The districts of Majz, Kataf, and Munabbih were also hit by Saudi air and missile strikes, causing damage to farms and roads.
In Al-Bayda, Hajjah, Taiz, and the Capital Secretariat, airstrikes targeted civilian and service facilities. Apache helicopters bombed the villages of Hamidah and Qamar in Jizan with 31 rockets, along with airstrikes on Majazah in Asir.
2019: Destruction of Telecommunications and Shelling of Al-Hodeidah
On January 11, 2019, coalition aircraft destroyed the telecommunications network on Jabal Al-Salah in Bart Al-Anan District, Al-Jawf.
In Al-Hodeidah, mercenaries fired dozens of artillery shells and guided missiles at Al-Tuhayta, Al-Durayhimi, and Hays districts, burning the home of citizen Maher Abdullah Mahfouz and causing widespread damage to residential neighborhoods.
Airstrikes also hit Sa’ada, Ma’rib, Sana’a, and Hajjah, targeting the districts of Baqim, Kataf, Nihm, Sirwah, and Haradh.
2020: Victims of War Remnants
On January 11, 2020, a child was killed and his brother injured when a cluster munition—leftover from the aggression—exploded in Kataf District, Sa’ada. Razih District was subjected to missile and artillery shelling on populated villages.
In Al-Hodeidah, the areas of Hays and Al-Durayhimi were shelled with more than 30 artillery rounds, while mercenaries established military fortifications within residential neighborhoods.
Airstrikes also targeted Ma’rib, Al-Jawf, and Al-Bayda, as Saudi forces shelled villages and farms in Sa’ada.
