January 19… A Day of Open Massacres in the Record of the American–Saudi–Emirati Aggression
On this day, January 19, black pages accumulate in the record of the American–Saudi–Emirati aggression against Yemen, as history itself becomes an irrefutable witness to fully-fledged war crimes that targeted the Yemeni people in their lives, security, education, and livelihoods, and struck civilian infrastructure and facilities without distinction. Throughout the years of aggression, this day has remained a symbol of the violation of Yemeni blood and the entrenchment of a policy of systematic killing against civilians — women, children, and students — in a scene that encapsulates the nature and objectives of this war.
2016: Targeting Homes, Schools, and Markets
On January 19, 2016, the aggression’s warplanes committed one of their most horrific massacres against civilians by targeting the home of citizen Hussein Sarmi in the Maran area of Haydan District, Saada Governorate, resulting in the martyrdom of 14 civilians and the injury of five others, most of them women and children.
In the same crime, one citizen was killed and three others injured in an airstrike on Al-Sahn area in Saada city, followed by strikes on Takhyah and Wadi Walbah in Al-Dhahir District.
In Taiz, twelve students and a teacher were killed and three others and a woman injured when an airstrike targeted Al-Harir neighborhood east of the city as students were leaving their schools — a crime that shook human conscience and revealed the deliberate targeting of the educational process.
The warplanes also launched a series of raids on Al-Thawra Sports City, Television Hill, Wadi Ahmad, and Daris in the capital, in addition to bombing Sana’a International Airport, destroying Al-Aqil biscuit factory in Al-Nahda district, and targeting 21 September Park and the densely populated Al-Tahrir area, leaving massive destruction of public and private property.
Strikes extended to Marib, targeting Sarwah and Majzar districts, security and educational buildings, and the strategic جبل هيلان (Jabal Hilan), while other raids hit Amran, Al-Bayda, Hajjah, and additional governorates.
2017: Public Roads Under Fire and Cluster Bombs
On January 19, 2017, four travelers were injured in two airstrikes targeting the main road in Manakha District, while heavy raids struck Jabal Yam in Nihm, some using internationally prohibited cluster munitions.
In Saada, the districts of Haydan, Al-Dhahir, Baqim, and Monabbih were subjected to intensive Saudi missile and artillery shelling that targeted farms, homes, and vehicles. Simultaneous strikes hit parts of Taiz, Lahj, Al-Jawf, Hajjah, and Hodeidah.
2018: Fishermen and Roads in the Line of Fire
On January 19, 2018, a fisherman was injured aboard his boat off the coast of Al-Salif after being targeted by coalition warboats, a flagrant violation of international maritime law.
Airstrikes also targeted fuel stations and public roads in Saada and districts in Marib, alongside raids deep inside Saudi territory in Asir and Najran, within a broad military escalation.
2019–2020: Artillery Shelling and Residential Areas Targeted
On January 19, 2019, Saudi missile and artillery shelling targeted Razih, Baqim, and Shada districts, causing extensive damage to roads, farms, and homes.
In 2020, coalition mercenaries intensified artillery shelling on Hodeidah city, targeting 50th Street, Al-Shaab city, Hays, and Al-Durayhimi, burning homes and terrorizing residents, while airstrikes hit Nihm district simultaneously.
2021–2022: Aerial Escalation and Attacks on Vital Facilities
On January 19, 2021, coalition warplanes launched raids on Al-Jawf, Marib, Saada, and Hajjah, while Hodeidah endured heavy artillery bombardment exceeding hundreds of shells and the construction of new combat fortifications.
On January 19, 2022, five civilians — including two children — were killed in an airstrike on a vehicle in Harib District, Marib. Airports, civilian facilities, and residential neighborhoods in Sana’a, Al-Bayda, Al-Jawf, Al-Dhalea, and Shabwa were bombed, including an attack on Ayn Hospital in Shabwa, and the destruction of homes, farms, and fuel stations — a crime reflecting utter disregard for humanitarian law.
2023: Killing Continues Despite the Passing Years
On January 19, 2023, one civilian was killed and two injured by Saudi shelling on areas of Saada, while mercenaries in Hodeidah continued building fortifications and shelling civilian zones with artillery and small arms, confirming the persistence of the aggression’s criminal approach without any commitment to halting violations.
