February 1: A Day Marking the Targeting of Civilians and National Infrastructure in Yemen

February 1 stands as a day that underscores the ongoing U.S.–Saudi–Emirati aggression against Yemen and the systematic targeting of Yemenis and the foundations of their daily life. Martyrs and wounded—among them women and children—fell across several governorates, amid continued aerial, missile, and artillery bombardment of homes, schools, farms, roads, and critical infrastructure.

2016: Women and Children in the Line of Fire

On February 1, 2016, a woman and her daughter were killed while at a water well after a Saudi military missile strike on Al-Dhira‘ah sub-district in the Maran area of Haidan District, Saada Governorate. Coalition aircraft also carried out a series of raids targeting citizens’ homes in the Sharawah area of Baqim District along the border.

A civilian was injured by an airstrike near a school in Bani Qais District, Hajjah Governorate, causing material damage to property, while Abu Duwar School in Mustaba District was destroyed.

Airstrikes also hit Naqil Ibn Ghailan in Nihm District and Al-Sawad area in Sanhan District, Sana’a Governorate, inflicting severe damage to agricultural lands, livestock pastures, and residential neighborhoods.

2017: Targeting Homes, Markets, and Cities

On February 1, 2017, citizen Mohammed Al-Hakami and three others—including two children—were killed when coalition aircraft struck his home in Sanaa‘ area of Bani Matar District, Sana’a.

Fifteen airstrikes hit the Anjar and Al-‘Awsh areas in Wadi Dhahr, Bayt Na‘m, Hamdan District, damaging numerous homes.

The coalition targeted the Miami Tourist Resort in Al-Kutaib area of Hodeidah City with five strikes, Hodeidah Airport with four strikes, and launched additional raids on Al-Khokha (six), Al-Jabanah (six), Al-Hawk (three), the port (seven), and Kilo 16 area in Al-Durayhimi District (two).

Airstrikes also hit Haradh District in Hajjah (two), Al-Matoun District in Al-Jawf (one), and Mocha District in Taiz (eight), including four north of Jabal Al-Nar.

In Saada, aircraft carried out two strikes on Al-Thu‘ban and Mandabah in Baqim District, targeted citizens’ homes in Saqayn District, dropped two cluster bombs on Rahban area, and struck the Al-Safinah site and Al-Qashbah area in Al-Rabo‘ah, Asir.

2018: Comprehensive Escalation Across Governorates

On February 1, 2018, coalition aircraft launched five strikes on Al-Dailami Air Base in Sana’a, four on the main road in Hays District, Hodeidah, and nineteen strikes on Haradh and Midi districts in Hajjah.

Strikes also hit a poultry farm in Al-Sallou District, Jabal Al-Mun‘im in Al-Dabab, Taiz (two), Harf Sufyan District in ‘Amran (four), and Al-Mahashimah area in Khab wa Al-Sha‘f District, Al-Jawf (one).

In Saada, aircraft struck Al-‘Atfin in Kataf District (two), and areas in Al-Buqa‘ and Maran in Saqayn and Hidan, in addition to Saudi missile and artillery shelling of Munabbih, Jawiyah City, and various areas of Razih District.

2019: Children Under Fire

On February 1, 2019, two children and a man were injured by mercenary artillery shelling in Al-Jabaliyah area of At-Tuhaita District, Hodeidah. Two children were also injured when artillery struck a civilian home in Al-Hali District.

A civilian was injured in the July 7 residential area of Hodeidah City, and Al-Rafahiya Hotel was targeted with three guided missiles and several artillery shells.

Mercenary forces shelled Al-Sha‘b, the villages of Al-Shajan and Al-Kuwai‘i, and Al-Durayhimi City with artillery and automatic weapons.

Coalition aircraft launched thirteen strikes on areas in Al-Wazi‘iyah District, Taiz; two on Al-‘Abisah in Kushar; two on Haradh and Midi in Hajjah; three on a civilian home in Al-Sha‘b neighborhood, Suwan, Sana’a; and one on Sirwah District, Ma’rib.

In Saada, aircraft struck Al-Dhahir District (two) and Al-Qadd and Al-‘Ali areas in Razih (two), alongside Saudi missile and artillery shelling of populated villages in Munabbih District.

2020–2021: Intensified Airstrikes and Shelling

On February 1, 2020, airstrikes targeted Al-Ghayl District (four), Ham and Al-Jar‘oub areas and other locations in Al-Matoun, Al-Jawf (five), and Nihm District, Sana’a (three).

In Hodeidah, various areas were subjected to artillery and automatic weapons fire, in addition to seven mortar shells on farms south of Al-Shajan village near Al-Durayhimi. Homes were destroyed in Kinna area of Al-Safra’, with six strikes on Al-Malahiظ in Al-Dhahir, Saada.

On February 1, 2021, coalition aircraft struck Sana’a International Airport (two), Salbah area in Khab wa Al-Sha‘f, Al-Jawf (two), Sirwah in Ma’rib (one), and Al-Durayhimi in Hodeidah (five), amid continued artillery and missile shelling of residential neighborhoods.
