Head of Palestinian Prisoner’s Club: Ben Gvir’s Storming of “Ofer” Prison is Direct Threat to Prisoners’ Lives

The Head of the Palestinian Prisoner’s Club, Abdullah Al-Zaghari, considered on Sunday the storming of the Zionist “Ofer” prison by the extremist Zionist war minister, Itamar Ben Gvir, and his threats to Palestinian prisoners as a dangerous escalation in the policy of systematic violations targeting the captive movement in the enemy’s prisons.

Al-Zaghari explained to the Palestinian “Shehab” Agency that the extremist Ben Gvir, since assuming his post in the enemy’s extreme right-wing government, has worked to entrench a policy of revenge against Palestinian prisoners by assaulting the human rights guaranteed by international laws and charters, pointing out that these policies have led to the prisoners being stripped of their basic rights and isolated from the outside world.

He affirmed that the instructions issued by the criminal, extremist Zionist Ben Gvir have contributed to the escalation of repression, abuse, and systematic torture within the detention centers, stressing that what is happening constitutes a direct threat to the lives of prisoners, given the free hand given to jailers to practice daily assaults and violations.

The Head of the Palestinian Prisoner’s Club said that the Zionist prisons have turned into torture sites, as a result of the crimes of starvation and medical negligence, which has led to an increase in the number of martyred prisoners, warning of the danger of the continuation of these policies on the health and humanitarian conditions of the prisoners.

He pointed out that the extremist Ben Gvir’s storming of Ofer prison is not the first incident, considering it “political shows aimed at taking revenge on Palestinian detainees,” noting that these practices take place under the political cover of the current enemy government.

He explained that the escalation coincides with the Israeli enemy’s attempts to expedite the approval of legislation related to the law on executing prisoners, which is a dangerous development that threatens the international human rights and legal system, and constitutes a dangerous precedent in dealing with Palestinian prisoners.

Al-Zaghari called on the international community and human rights institutions to assume their legal and moral responsibilities towards protecting Palestinian prisoners.

He called for serious international action to stop the escalating violations against male and female prisoners, pointing out that what is happening does not only affect Palestinians but threatens the universal human rights system established to protect people everywhere.

He noted that the current stage is one of the most dangerous stages the Palestinian captive movement is going through, given the continuation of policies of repression and abuse in the enemy’s prisons, calling for the provision of legal and human rights protection for prisoners and an end to punitive measures against them.
