Fearing Iran might close all its ports, Saudi Arabia pleads with Trump to reconsider the Strait of Hormuz.

The Wall Street Journal revealed that Riyadh’s fears that Iran might close all Saudi seaports have prompted it to urge the US president to return to the negotiating table and reverse his decision to impose a blockade on the Strait of Hormuz.

The American newspaper quoted officials as saying that Saudi Arabia fears that America’s move to impose further restrictions on the strategic strait overlooking the Gulf will push Iran to escalate its actions on other maritime shipping routes, referring to the Red Sea, which would effectively paralyze all Saudi seaports and ports.

Saudi Arabia possesses several ports and harbors on both the Gulf and the Red Sea. The war imposed by America and Israel on Iran has already led to significant disruptions in Saudi and Gulf oil shipments. However, the closure of Red Sea ports would mean a complete paralysis of Saudi oil exports, which would represent an unprecedented catastrophe in the history of all the Gulf monarchies.

Gulf energy exporters feel that the blockade through which Trump seeks to blackmail Iran at the negotiating table will harm the Gulf states, and they will suffer enormous and direct losses, as happened to them due to the attacks carried out by the US military from military bases located within them.
