Commemorating the Martyrdom of Imam Zayd with an Intellectual Event at the Great Mosque in Sana’a
The Yemeni Scholars Association and the Scientific Society at the Great Mosque in Sana’a commemorated the martyrdom of Imam Zayd ibn Ali (peace be upon them both) with an intellectual and mobilization event that addressed the dimensions of his reformist, intellectual, and jihadist revolution, under the title: “Imam Zayd: Intellectual and Political Reform and the Methodology of Mobilization and Jihad.”
During the event, Khalid al-Madani, First Deputy Mayor of Sana’a, emphasized that commemorating this anniversary represents a remembrance of Imam Zayd’s role in confronting Umayyad tyranny. He affirmed that the Yemeni people today are following his path in confronting the forces of global arrogance, drawing inspiration from his revolution’s values of sacrifice and freedom.
He explained that Imam Zayd’s movement was based on three fronts: military resistance against tyrants, jurisprudential resistance against the scholars of the ruling authority, and intellectual resistance to confront the despair that gripped the nation after the tragedy of Karbala.
For his part, the Secretary-General of the Scientific Society at the Grand Mosque, Allamah Abdul-Fattah al-Kabsi, considered the commemoration of Imam Zayd’s martyrdom a significant opportunity to draw lessons from his courage and sacrifices. He pointed out that his revolution was based on intellectual reform and enjoining good and forbidding evil before it turned to armed confrontation.
He explained that Imam Zayd confronted the doctrine of predestination promoted by the Umayyads to justify their oppression, emphasizing that his revolution was a correction of the course of religion and a confrontation of the deviations of power.
The event included speeches and a statement issued by the Yemeni Scholars Association, calling on the Muslim nation to benefit from Imam Zayd’s thought and his Quranic approach, and to revive the revolutionary spirit to confront oppressors. It also stressed the necessity of supporting the Palestinian cause and Gaza in the face of the Zionist-American aggression.
The statement emphasized the importance of lifting the siege on Yemen and restoring national sovereignty, praising the stances of Yemeni tribes in confronting invaders throughout history.
