The local authority in Mahweet welcomed Sayed Assad, head of the ICRC’s sub-delegation in Sana’a and a number of its accompanying members.

The visit aimed at the inclusion of the province of Al-Mahweet within the activities of the Red Cross in the field of health and humanitarian relief.

Mutahar Sharafaddean, Director-General of the Executive Unit for Displaced Persons’ Camps, referred to many displacing from other regions  to the governorate due to the siege and Saudi war, speaking of 25,000 relocated people with a total of 9,966 displaced families now residing in public schools with the cessation of subsidies from the World Food Program (WFP).

Moreover, Secretary General of the Health and Population Office, Dr. Ameen, mentioned the health and treatment subsidies required by the governorate, especially the districts infected with malaria, cholera and malnutrition such as Bani Saad and the outskirts of districts bordering Tahama in Hodeidah coastal province.

Speaking of Tahama, it is also well known to be another victim of famine due to the air, sea and land siege imposed by the coalition. It is located in Hodeidah, which the UN and several humanitarian organizations have warned on carrying military operations in. The warning was issued as the only functioning port is Hodeidah port, which is responsible for 80% of imports. Therefore, any damage inflicted by the port could lead to an even worse “catastrophic situation” as described by international humanitarian organizations.

The meeting was concluded with the approval of the President of the ICRC to provide a team from the Cross to assess the humanitarian situation in the province as well as the needs and requirements of the humanitarian situation.
