Forces of the Syrian Arab Army are well on their way to lifting the siege on a key base in the east Damascus district of Harasta since commencing their long awaited counter-offensive against terrorist militias on Thursday morning.

So far, Syrian Army assault units have managed to recapture many tens of building in the Al-Ajmi neighborhood of Harasta district and have gained fire control over the local Basher Hospital.

Moreover, Syrian warplanes targeted and destroyed the main operations room used by the Al-Qaeda-linked Ha’yat Tahrir al-Sham (formerly Jabhat al-Nursa) terrorist group which led the initial militant offensive. Most fighters present inside it were either killed or wounded.

Overall, dozens of terrorist militants have been killed and captured as a result of fierce battles with the Syrian Army since its counter-blow was delivered this morning.

At the present time, the Syrian Arab Army has covered 400 meters of the 800 meter journey to lift the siege on troops holding out in the military vehicle depot base, putting it right on halfway done.

Despite this, there are reports that the greater aim of the counter-offensive will be to recapture the entire Harasta district as well as other areas in eastern Damascus that have been under the control of militant groups since 2012.
