Forces of the Syrian Arab Army and allied paramilitaries are rolling up the southwestern countryside of Aleppo province, seizing two towns from militant groups during the last several hours in a head-long dash towards eastern Idlib.

On Thursday, Syrian army-led forces resumed their drive west of Khanasser en-route to reach elite government troops currently battling it out with terrorist militias in eastern Idlib province.

According to military-affiliated sources, the renewed push in southwest Aleppo has seen Syrian troops capture the towns of Umm Khan and Umm al-Amad Kabli from armed rebel groups over the last several hours.

Knowledge on the disposition of rebel forces within southwest Aleppo remains vague since reports surfaced on Wednesday suggesting that armed groups had made a full withdrawal from the region in order to bolster militant defense lines in eastern Idlib.

In any case, the latest advance by pro-government forces in southwest Aleppo puts them considerably closer to reaching army units in eastern Idlib and it is possible that a link-up could be achieved within the next several days to come.
