A Number of Yemeni Human Rights Activists Held a Seminar Talking about the Responsibility of the United Nations for Violations of International Law

A number of Yemeni human rights activists, journalists and lawyers held a seminar on the responsibility of the United Nations for violations of international law in Yemen and the role of UN Representative to Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh.
The seminar, which sponsored by the Middle East Foundation for Development and Human Rights and Sun of Justice Organization for Rights and Development reviewed the role of the United Nations in the war being waged by the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen since 26 March 2015 and the initiatives that are supposed to be presented to protect international law that the coalition and its forces have violated in Yemen.
Attendees stressed thet The United Nations has not failed in international law not to resolve its position towards the coalition, which violated international law only, but sought to lose international legitimacy by taking representatives who is not competent in the representation of the United Nations properly as Ismail Ould Sheikh, who failed to provide appropriate solutions to end the war on Yemen and the killing and displacement of civilians and the imposition of a siege on them, but became a reason to prolong the war with the frustrating a political solution and reached a dead end.
The head of the Middle East Foundation for Development and Human Rights called on the United Nations and the Secretary-General to assess the role of UN envoy Ould Cheikh and his understanding of the roots of the problem and to find a practical and realistic solution to the problems and priorities needed to build confidence and return political dialogue between the Yemeni parties without external interference.


The professor of International Law at the University of Taiz, Dr. Ahmed Al-Humaidi, pointed out that the United Nations is a center for coordinating the policies and relations of States and moves only within the limits set for them that is intended to be done to achieve the principle of balance between the main actors at the international level.
He stressed that the United Nations abandoned the principles for which the United Nations did not deter the coalition and did not address the reasons that led to the aggravation of the situation and lift the siege on the Yemeni people .. pointing out that the United Nations is an active participator in the violation of international principles and values ​​and laws.
The seminar was held after Ould Cheikh presented his briefing to the Security Council about Yemen, the activists described the briefing that harmed the United Nations and violated the International law and showed the fact that its envoy was biased to one of the parties to the conflict, thus exerting pressure on the other party to hand over the port of Hodeidah, “Sheikh was born that” he did not seek to find a solution in Yemen, but seeks to gain special interests at the expense of Yemenis.
At the end of the seminar, the attendees discussed the possibility of Yemenis getting their rights in light of the United Nations’ failure to protect international law. They stressed that all groups of the international community, including governmental bodies, human rights organizations and the Yemeni individual, will continue to monitor and document possible violations of the alliance.
At the end of the seminar, the participants thanked the Middle East Foundation for Development and Human Rights and Sun of Justice Organization for Rights and Development for their efforts to hold the seminar and to allow the attendees to participate in defending the rights of looted civilians.
