Mohammad bin Nayef bin ‘Abdel-Aziz has been deposed as Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia in favor of Mohammad bin Salman Al-Saud, Saudi state media announced this morning.

While the reason behind Mohammad bin Nayef’s sacking as Crown Prince is still mysterious, it does raise many questions, especially since he was given the title shortly after his uncle’s ascension to the Saudi throne.

Mohamad bin Salman Al-Saud has been the Minister of Defense in Saudi Arabia since September 2015, where he took a major part in the current war against Yemen as well as Syria.

The son of King Salman’s third wife, Mohammad bin Salman has been responsible in destabilizing many countries in the region through truculent political and military actions.

The Saudi Press Agency reports that in addition to being named Crown Prince, Mohammad bin Salman Al-Saud will hold on to his position as Minister of Defense.
