Details about Situation Around Yemeni Coasts and its Red Sea Port

Yemeni Red Sea Ports Corporation has revealed the size of losses of the Corporation since the beginning of the US-Saudi Coalition, which amounted to 941 million and 772 thousand dollars as direct and indirect damages.

“The Corporation’s losses since the beginning of the aggression until May, 2017 amounted to 621 million dollars, while the losses in this year amounted to more than 320.7 million dollars,” said Yahya Sharaf al-Deen, deputy chairman of the Red Sea Ports Corporation, at a press conference held on Saturday.

 He stressed that the coalition sought during the past three years to eliminate the port by various means, causing the loss of 60% of the port operational capacity and freeze its work.
Sharaf al-Deen appealed the local, foreign and international organizations to stand by the Yemeni people in the face of the abuse, attack and siege, which compounded the suffering of the Yemeni people.

As well as the fisheries sector in Yemen, which is considered one of the most important sectors of the Yemeni economy was also unexcluded of targeting by the coalition’s raids, disregarding humanitarian disasters that UN described as the worst in the world.

The number of fishing boats destroyed by the coalition reached more than 222 boats with a loss mounted to five million and 248 thousand and 536 dollars, according to the latest reports issued by the Ministry of Fisheries.

While the number of boats that stopped their activity as a result of the targeting of landing sites, is four thousand and 586 boats, mostly in Midi district of Hajjah province and Dhubab, Bab al-Mandab and Mukha districts in Taiz province, where the losses mounted to billion and 58 million and 312 thousand dollars.

It also caused direct damages to the livelihood of more than two and a half million citizens of coastal cities and villages along the coastal area, in addition to the decrease average of the annual consumption of fish at the level of the Republic, where it reached two and a half kg instead of 14 kg to be 85% .

The bombardment targeting the infrastructure of Midi , Hima ports, and 11 fish landing sites, as well as the center of exports caused losses estimated at 13 million, 32 thousand and 558 dollars.

The number of establishments whose activities have ceased due to the decline of fish production, reached to more than 50 different establishments between factory, preparation plant and others, resulting in losses of five million and 262 thousand dollars.

The direct targeting of villages and fishing communities by aviation and warships resulted in a large wave of displacement that had a disastrous impact on the areas that were displaced, especially as fishermen are among the poorest in society.

Losses of industries and services associated with fish activity amounted to 8 million, 269 thousand and 442 dollars, while losses in fees and customs amounted to 42 million, 332 thousand, 484 dollars.

The last crime was two days ago when a civilian was killed and dozens of fishermen’s boats were destroyed by six coaliton’s airstrikes on Hodaidah province, the civilian was killed in the airstrike which targeted Sawiq village of Tuhaita district.

Also in Kilo-16 area, of Hodeidah, the warplane launched an strike, while number of fishermen’s boats were destroyed in four Saudi-led airstrikes on fishermen’s center in Arej area of Bajel district.

A series of violations and crimes continued at all levels in all Yemeni cities, provinces and villages by the coalition’s daily target directly or indirectly as well as the people, with a suffocating siege and systematic destruction of the infrastructure and economic and everything related to human life.
