Al-Thawabteh: 127,000 Tents Damaged and 288,000 Families in Gaza Without Shelter

On Monday, Ismail Al-Thawabteh, head of the Government Media Office in Gaza, revealed that approximately 127,000 out of 135,000 tents are no longer fit to house displaced persons.

Al-Thawabteh clarified to the Palestinian “Safa” agency that the Israeli enemy has left more than 288,000 families without shelter in Gaza after destroying nearly 90% of the built-up infrastructure in the Strip.

He stated that 21 displaced people, including 18 children, have died due to severe cold in the forced displacement camps, considering these numbers reflect the magnitude of the imminent danger threatening the lives of the most vulnerable groups.

He warned that the deficit in blankets and heating methods exceeds 70% across the Strip, rising to more dangerous percentages in areas deprived of regular aid.

Al-Thawabteh pointed out that the heating and blanket crisis has led to tens of thousands of recorded cases of respiratory and infectious diseases amidst severe overcrowding and the complete absence of the minimum essentials for a healthy life inside the camps.

He explained that temporary shelters are bracing for an incoming weather front amidst continuous targeting; the Israeli enemy has shelled 303 shelters and 61 food distribution centers since the start of the war.

The director of the Gaza Media Office called for an international and organized move to provide blankets, heating methods, and safe shelter immediately, warning that the continuation of this situation will turn winter into a new season of mass killing in the Gaza Strip.
