Civil defense in Gaza warns of unprecedented cold wave threatening children’s lives

Mahmoud Bassal, spokesperson for the Civil Defense in the Gaza Strip, warned on Monday of a sharp and unprecedented drop in temperatures tonight, the worst since the beginning of winter, posing a serious threat to children’s lives.

In a press statement, Bassal said the cold has become so severe that people can barely feel their feet. He emphasized that infants, the sick, and families living in dilapidated tents are at direct risk, according to the Palestinian news agency Safa.

He added, “If this cold front and the current dire humanitarian situation persist, we will witness deaths among young children in the Gaza Strip due to the low temperatures.”
