Security Council Fails to Adopt Hormuz Resolution; Yemeni Foreign Ministry Welcomes Decision

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates welcomed the failure to adopt the draft resolution concerning the Strait of Hormuz during the Security Council session held today.

In a statement received by the Yemeni News Agency (SABA), the Ministry considered this step a reflection of international rejection of attempts to legitimize military escalation and the use of force in one of the world’s vital maritime chokepoints.

The Ministry praised the positions of Russia and China, which opposed the draft resolution, as well as the positions of Pakistan and Colombia, which abstained, commending their role in defending the principles of international law and the UN Charter and rejecting the use of the Security Council as a tool to legitimize military actions.

The statement affirmed that closing the Strait of Hormuz to countries attacking the Islamic Republic of Iran is a legitimate response to the brutal aggression it has been subjected to since February 28.

He pointed out that the Security Council and the countries sponsoring the draft resolution should have been working to end the brutal US-Israeli aggression against the Islamic Republic of Iran, instead of seeking to pass resolutions aimed at legitimizing the use of military force in the Strait of Hormuz.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also affirmed that the United States has a long history of misinterpreting Security Council resolutions to legitimize its aggression against other countries, including using the Security Council resolution on navigation in the Red Sea to legitimize its joint aggression with Britain against Yemen.

It reiterated Yemen’s support for the Islamic Republic of Iran in the face of the brutal US-Israeli aggression against it.
