Doctors Without Borders Organization called on Wednesday for an increased humanitarian and emergency aid to Yemen as well as diplomatic efforts to ease the devastating consequences of the war on Yemen.

The organization said in a statement published in an International Conference to Address the Humanitarian Crisis in Yemen:”Donors must provide more funding immediately and give priority to life-saving interventions; millions of people across Yemen are now in urgent need of emergency assistance in a country where most of its economy has collapsed.

“With donors meeting to pledge financial support, they must also pledge to strengthen diplomatic efforts to mitigate the devastating consequences of the war on men, women and children stranded,” the statement added that increased funding for humanitarian assistance alone could not reduce the burden and harm suffered by citizens.”

Aid organizations should be made more accessible to people most in need, and humanitarian access through the ports by restricting imports, transferring shipments and others, and allowing basic supplies, including medicines and foodstuffs, to be delivered to places where the most needed are, the statement included.

“Many of the patients we treat have lost their livelihoods, and they are facing disease, high prices and shortages of essential items, including food, fuel and electricity” the statement pointed out.

The health system in Yemen needs urgent support to avoid total collapse due to lack of health facilities, specialized medical care, equipment, staff and medical supplies, which severely affects people’s access to life-saving medical care, the statement concluded.
