Mr. Abdulmalik al-Houthi: “Our battle against tyranny is a continuation of Karbala… and Imam Hussein’s cause is Islam in its authenticity and purity”

3

In the processions held today, Sunday 11 Muharram 1447 AH, to commemorate the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him), Leader Mr. Abdulmalik Badr al-Din al-Houthi affirmed that this occasion consoles the Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him and his family), while at the same time reviving the meanings of guidance and emulation, and springing from the exemplary stance embodied by the Prophet’s grandson, Imam Hussein (peace be upon him).

He explained that Imam Hussein is the bearer of a true cause—his cause is Islam in its original purity: the Islam that liberates humanity from the servitude of false tyrants to the sole servitude of God, that rejects injustice and declares hostility toward the arrogant, establishes justice, and makes equity both a methodology and a responsibility, as God Almighty says:

“O you who believe, be upright for justice, bearing witness to God…” (Qur’an 4:135).

He pointed out that the Messenger of God (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) laid the foundations of Islam, built its pillars through his struggle, patience, and sacrifices, elevating the Arabs from a warring, idolatrous Jahiliyah (pre-Islamic) society—one that buried its daughters alive, killed its sons, and worshipped idols—to the forefront of nations, until the Ummah of Islam assumed a distinguished stature and great empires bowed to it.

Mr. al-Houthi noted that today’s Islam—with all its mercy and dignity for humanity—has become a distant wish for many, after the Ummah lost its great landmarks, and Islam is now besieged from within and targeted in its ideas and project.

He shed light on the dangerous role played by the Umayyad clique, which led the front of polytheism against the Messenger of God and sought to eradicate Islam. Even after being reluctantly subdued at the Conquest of Mecca, they retreated into hypocrisy to distort Islam from within, restore their influence, and subjugate the Ummah.

He recalled the Prophet’s warning against the Umayyads in three comprehensive phrases:

“They took God’s religion as a pretext, His servants as puppets, and His wealth as a source of profit,”
a criminal methodology that misled the Ummah, to the point that even Imam Hussein was forsaken despite his stature, and thousands were mobilized to support the Umayyad injustice.

He affirmed that Yazid did not even acknowledge Islam, as he himself proclaimed in a verse that expressed his disbelief:

“The House of Hashim has toyed with power—no revelation came down, no inspiration descended.”

Turning to contemporary issues, Mr. al-Houthi stressed that the enemy’s genocide and all forms of injustice in Palestine impose upon us—by faith and religious duty—the obligation to confront American and Israeli tyranny and refuse to submit. Obedience to them means humiliation in this world and loss in the Hereafter.

He added, “No matter the challenges and sacrifices, this is a sacred cause that deserves our dignity and freedom—this is the surest choice,” affirming that the march of truth begins with God’s promise of victory, which we witness today growing in Gaza, Lebanon, Iran, Iraq, and Yemen.

He emphasized that the blessed Qur’anic project is, at its core, adherence to the Qur’an, carrying the banner of Islam, and acting within the framework of jihad, enjoining good and forbidding evil. He reaffirmed steadfast support for Palestine and enmity toward America and Israel as adversaries of Islam and the Ummah.

He also warned that the Zionist project is a destructive scheme against the Ummah’s religion and worldly affairs, and that confronting it is a collective duty alongside all the free people of the Ummah and the Axis of Jerusalem and Resistance.

Despite the media pressures, attacks, and incitement these positions face, perseverance remains the irreversible choice, as the noble examples in Karbala, Gaza, and Yemen have proven.

In conclusion, Mr. al-Houthi affirmed that, despite the betrayal, treachery, and tyranny Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) confronted, he bequeathed to the Ummah the greatest lessons in dignity and standing for God. Islam is a project of purification and an ongoing responsibility by which the Ummah moves according to God’s Book and the Prophet’s guidance—a responsibility that determines the Ummah’s excellence, as God says:

“You are the best nation produced [as an example] for mankind…” (Qur’an 3:110).

He confirmed that this Islam is the legacy of the prophets, culminating in the final Messenger, Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him and his family), with the Qur’an as the complete light, the enduring miracle, and the perfect guidance until the Day of Resurrection.
